Super User DitchPanda Posted April 13, 2020 Super User Posted April 13, 2020 So I haven't really thrown these in probably 15 years of so having opted for brush hog type baits instead. Anybody still throwing these? Brands? Colors? Thanks in advance for the replies 1 Quote
OnthePotomac Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Oh yes, green pumpkin on a 3/0 EWG Gammie with a 3/16 slip sinker during spawn. Bass hate a lizard lurking around their spawing grounds. 1 Quote
j bab Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 I still throw em every once in awhile, and yes they still work tx rig or Carolina rig Same colors I throw in other baits: Tilapia, Green pumpkin, etc... I of course use Big Bite (the 8" Kriet Tail Lizard is awesome) but you really can't go wrong with a lizard no matter who makes it Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted April 13, 2020 Global Moderator Posted April 13, 2020 I use them for Carolina rig’s exclusively. For working a regular t rig I have better luck using other options Mike 1 Quote
2tall79 Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 I throw them all the time, t-rigged....year 'round. Favorites are 6" Power lizards in black, Twister lizards, both 4" and 6" in grape w/red flake, black w/ yellow dots. I also have a treasured supply of BPS spring lizards from long ago. My favorite is mean green. 3 Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 6" zoom lizards is what I use! Tequila Sunrise, Junebug, Black and Blue, and a few other colors. 1 Quote
Eric~ Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 I use them still, I have a pack of Zoom Lizards in green pumpkin I throw on a Texas rig with a 3/0 offset round bend hook. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted April 13, 2020 Super User Posted April 13, 2020 I use to throw them more than worms . When I was fishing tourneys a six inch lizard seemed to draw more strikes from those 15 to 18 inch fish I was after . They probably didnt catch keepers any better than worms but in my mind they did . I still use them . I use the same colors with worms , lizards , craws .... Zoom lizards in purples and browns are my primary colors . How I make a selection on what to throw ,? its usually just whatever I feel like . If I want a slower rate of fall , I'll tie one on in lieu of a worm and use the same weight . Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted April 13, 2020 Super User Posted April 13, 2020 Zoom lizards on a C-rig are a staple of mine in the warmer months. 2 Quote

Super User Spankey Posted April 13, 2020 Super User Posted April 13, 2020 I don’t fish them as much as I use to but I’m always ready to throw a Zoom lizard or brush hog. Quote
Bass Junke Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 I fish 5 and 6" zoom lizards on a Carolina rig, and 4" Yum and Zoom lizards on a drop shot. 2 years ago a 4" lizard on a drop shot caught me a lot of fish. Quote

Super User Bird Posted April 13, 2020 Super User Posted April 13, 2020 Been throwing Zoom lizards for many years.....favorite is cotton candy chartreuse especially for SM. Quote
mrpao Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 I like to throw a zoom lizard in watermelon red flake. In the water it looks a lot like a red stopped newt, which is a popular salamander in our lakes and ponds on the eastern coast. 3 Quote

Super User GreenPig Posted April 13, 2020 Super User Posted April 13, 2020 Zoom 4" lizard in chartreuse pumpkin on an 18" dropshot is very effective for a month every spring for me. 1 Quote
Big Hands Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 This is the perfect time of year to fish with lizards. 1 Quote
Smells like fish Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Here's a weird thing about the creeks I fish. I can take the 6" Zoom lizard in green pumpkin or watermelon red and catch lots of smallmouth. If I use the exact same lure and color in a 4" I struggle or only catch the skunk. The most interesting aspect is that if I matched the hatch in my waters it would have to be the lil salamander in the above posts so I would need the 4". It must be that the 6" produces a more enticing action? 1 Quote

Super User Log Catcher Posted April 13, 2020 Super User Posted April 13, 2020 It is not very often I use a lizard. When I do it is a Zoom 6" lizard in green pumpkin, watermelon seed, june bug. I usually have better luck with baby brush hogs. Quote
