I took my jerkbait bait rod out today for the first time of the year and I lost about 10 yards of distance. The only thing that I changed is I went from 12lb red label to 10lb Yo Zuri Hybrid. At first I thought maybe the bearings are dirty. So after a good cleaning in the ultrasonic cleaner and a fresh drop of high speed oil. I went and tried it again with the same results. Reel is a super tuned bb1 pro with H.H air bearings my jerkbait usually casts a mile. Quote

Super User FryDog62 Posted April 13, 2020 Super User Posted April 13, 2020 I’m a YZH fanboy but had same issue last year. Not huge but a little less distance. Re-spooled with Advance Mono and the lure flew off the reel. Seems more limp, and maybe YZH was a little more coiled coming off the spool. Lines are same diameter... Quote

I used the supersoft for years, very little memory, good casting distance, and good strength. When I saw they no longer offered the soft type, I changed brands. Quote

Super User Angry John Posted April 13, 2020 Super User Posted April 13, 2020 Used both the soft and regular yhb. The soft does cast further. Never had a real distance issue with casting... 10lb is more than you need with a jerk bait, strong enough to bend out any jb hook. 8 would be better. Quote

Nope I’ve been fishing all month I’m pretty sure my spool shaft bearing has some crap in it need to soak it in lighter fluid instead of alcohol. Quote

I know J Francho isn't a big fan of my bearing cleaner - lighter fluid - but I prefer it over acetone. I just avoid acetone because I can't literally use it as a universal de-greaser. Even with the regular Yo Zuri Hybrid, something has changed. I try to buy old stock off eBay. Usually any colored Yo Zuri Hybrid will be the better stuff as all the recently produced stuff is clear afaik. Quote

The best practical way to get the distance back is more weight to throw. Fluoro doesn’t absorb water. The water gets in between the line and the water skin is sticky. This is why I don’t like to use fluorocarbon main line. Quote
