BassSteve Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 I always go to the improved clinch knot and palomar, probably because these are two of the very first knots I remembered by heart. I know it depends on the hook eye configuration, but I tend to tie palomar knots when using braid and clinch when using mono/fluoro line. I am not against other knots, there are a lot of great ones, I just don't seem to change when it comes to that. Its one of those things you just stick with. Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted April 12, 2020 Super User Posted April 12, 2020 To me knots are a confidence thing. I've tried many but only use a few that I can reliably tie and trust. Line to lure - Improved clinch for braid, Sand Diego Jam for everything else. Leader - Alberto or Blood knot depending on line diameter That's it, nothing else for me. 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted April 12, 2020 Super User Posted April 12, 2020 I've switched to a single knot for all terminal applications. For any joining work, leader or backing-to-mainline...double Uni. 2 Quote
Big Swimbait Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 SDJ for all lines to lures. Lefty Kreh knot for leaders. Quote

camman Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 Palomar for anything 15lb and under. San Diego Jam for anything over Uni to Uni for braid/fluoro Quote
schplurg Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 Improved clinch. I'd use Palomar more but I screw it up sometimes. I pull the knot tight and it comes undone. Must be passing the hook through the loop twisted or something. Easiest knot yet I screw it up frequently. Was using a double uni for leaders (just started playing with leaders) and I discovered that knot is kinda too fat for my guides. Causes some fun times for sure. Gonna do the Alberto next - or was it that other one, I forget. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted April 12, 2020 Global Moderator Posted April 12, 2020 Snell for punching Palomar for all other braid presentations SDJ for all others. Mike Quote

I have just always done that little step first 1 Quote

Super User Log Catcher Posted April 13, 2020 Super User Posted April 13, 2020 I use the San Diego jam knot most of the time. The only time I use a palomar knot is for a drop shot and I don't drop shot very often. I use a uni to uni knot for joining two lines together. Quote
Hower08 Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Palomar knot for everything it has never failed me. Alberto knot for connecting leader to main line. Those two knots tied correctly will not fail Quote
