Super User the reel ess Posted January 7, 2021 Super User Posted January 7, 2021 1983 or so Daiwa PMF100Procaster Magforce. I asked for it for Christmas because I saw Bill Dance use it on TV. It still had the pushbutton spool release just like this. I was actually still using it up to about 5 years ago. Daiwa mailed me parts to fix it for free (not even postage) three times before it finally fell apart. It was state of the art when it came out. One of the first magnetic braking reels. It lasted so long it was a marvel of engineering. 3 Quote
Basseditor Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 For me too: Red Ambassadeur 5000 in 1963. For my 10th birthday. 1 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted January 7, 2021 Super User Posted January 7, 2021 By 90 or 91, Daiwa had a 7:1 reel in the PT series. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted January 7, 2021 Super User Posted January 7, 2021 Shimano Bantam SG - Bought it in the 70s. I'd still be using it if I hadn't given it away. 4 Quote

ThatZX14Fella Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 It was a Pflueger, but I can't remember the model. I know it was orange and silver. I didn't get much use out of it before the line guide started sticking. I didn't know anything about fixing reels at that time, so I went back to spincasters for a while. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 7, 2021 Super User Posted January 7, 2021 My first was a BPS Rick Clunn reel from about 15-20 years ago. Didn't really care for it. Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 8, 2021 Super User Posted January 8, 2021 Y'all spoiled ? I came from a saltwater background so my first baitcaster was a Penn 109 level wind. Try throwing spinnerbaits with that puppy! My first bass setup was Abu Garcia Ambassador 5000, then moved to Shimano. 2 Quote
Backroad Angler Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 My first baitcasting reel was a Abu Garcia Silvermax when I first started fishing, I was 18. Quote

Do you still have that Curado? I remember when the Green B came out, it was $10 more than the Citica B, and it was a hard decision whether it was worth that $10. How times have changed. 1 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted January 8, 2021 Super User Posted January 8, 2021 Mine was most likely an old Penn level wind used to catch Bluefish on party boats off of sheepshead bay or Long Island NY Quote

No sir don't know why but at the time I didn't like low profile reels. Ended up giving it away ? 1 Quote
