The toy hooks that come on Megabass Vision 110s do not impress me but swapping hooks on jerkbaits can have issues.  Any good strong hook I substitute caused the much anticipated Vision 110 Silent to sink.  So do the wimpy little stock hooks actually play?  Thanks yall.

I've caught some large Illinois bass on those hooks.  I don't change them out.

They play fine if you don't overpower the bait with your setup. Haven't had any issues going stock, and usually replace with same stock from broken 110s. If you want to upgrade, you could try eliminating one hook (run two) to offset the increase in weight and maintain suspension.

I caught a seven pounder earlier this year on the stock 110 hooks, but I was fishing with 8 lb Yo-Zuri hybrid and didn't horse the fish in like I would with a worm hook in timber on 20 lb test.

Then I made the dumb maneuver of burying all three hooks into the material of my fishing backpack. I ended having to cut two of the hooks to get them out. After much hand wringing about not wanting to alter the action of the bait by putting larger hooks on the bait. I ended up going with Owner ST-36 trebles in #6 size, and put a red one on the front.

I haven't had a chance to check to see if the action or buoyancy has been altered.

I've caught some good fish on the stock hooks but I've also broken and bent a lot of them. I realize what the hooks are intended for but I just cant make myself fish it on lighter line etc. I've used the owner st36 hooks and they're much stouter but also heavier and do change the suspension of the baits. I'm trying vmc 8540 hooks and had a good day with them yesterday.  They're still light wire so you have to be careful but they seem stouter than the originals and are same size and cheaper than most.

Megabass Katsuage out barb treble hooks aren't any weaker then Other Japanses jerk bait hooks. You shouldn't be over powering a Megabass 110 if you use appropriate tackle and drag setting. Ripping hooks out doesn't work with out barbs, it takes a different push forward then pulling with needle nose pliers.

Do yall primarily use spinning gear with 110s?

Spinning with the regular and casting with the 110+1

Smallies and Spots can wreck the stock hooks on a 110, even smaller ones.  Largemouth obviously can too, but it's way more common with smallies or spots.  They are light wire hooks, it happens.

I prefer the stock hooks and when they get bent I replace them with the same.  I've heard good things about the Gamakatsu Finesse trebles in #5 (they supposedly run small)....When my stock of Katsuge #6's runs out I'll probably give those a try, but it'll be a while before I run out.

I use casting gear and 10lb flouro FWIW.

I use a medium casting rod with a fast tip. Where I live, I don't use anything heavier than 10 lb test with lures other than big swimbaits. I have no issues using spinning gear to fish a jerkbait, but most of the time it would not be my first choice. YMMV.

My first 10+ bass was caught on a 5'10" medium spinning rod with a 1000 size spinning reel and 6 lb test.

My spinning gear is mostly geared toward light plastics.

I like casting reels with jerk baits, it's easier to manage the line going onto the reel during the retreive. I use 11 lb Armillo with the 110's, Original Daiwa TD Fuego on a MC Splash-it rod. VMC Rapala 9650-5 trebles work good and inexpensive as replacements.

I use casting & spinning gear; both with lighter line (10lb usually)

I've tried several trebles on the 100's & the 110+1's and I've come to like

Gamakatsu EWG Treble Short Shank Magic Eye #4's.

Sticky sharp, compact, and super strong.

I will also add that I have been known to hang a red KVD short shank EWG on the front hanger from time to time.

Not that it helps catch Big Brown Bass or anything,

I just like the way it looks.

What a lot of angler don't realize is the 110 was originally designed for spinning gear and 6lb line. If you look back in the archives on Tackle Tour you may be able to find that info, they did an interview with Yuki Ito who designed that lure. I use a medium power casting rod with 10lb line for most of my jerkbaits and when I hook up I take my time and I don't have issues with bending hooks. As others already mentioned, if you are having issues bending the hooks out then you need a different set up or different tactic. Try using a rod with a softer tip, or use lighter line and loosen the drag and don't cross their eyes on the hook set.

I realize what they were designed for that's been pointed out time and time again.  However...every lake I fish is covered with standing timber and or a ton of thick vegetation.  It's just not logical to go after big bass in the kind of cover with those hooks.  I've had my heart broken more than once trying to finesse a 5+ lber out of those conditions.  If i fished more open water etc then I'd have no problems with the stock hooks. The megabass just flat out gets bit so I have done what I've had to to make them useable for me in the lakes I fish....and first order of business was find a little stouter hook.

I just wish they were darker- not the biggest fan of that aluminum color- super sharp tho.

They are super sharp & very strong for the wire size. As far as the alm color I understand your concern but the flash color might be an attraction rather than a bad thing. I have gotten bit on them so far with no problem.

Owner Zo Wire has been a great hook for me. Color doesnt bother me.

I replace them with Daichii light wire trebles and use Daichii light wire red hooks on the front.

You know me well sir.  Does the bait still suspend with these hooks?  Gotta have a red treble on the front.

I had a hook break the other day on a 110+1...thanks to a pike (at least he didn't take the whole bait!).

I replaced all 3 hooks with the Aaron Martens TGW Nano (size 5 seems to match the stock hook size perfectly). I haven't fished it yet tho to seem if the bait suspends the same.

I've had good success putting inline singles on my jerkbaits, including my Visions. What's really nice is that you can kind of fish them in weeds without fouling immediately. You miss a few fish if they are just swiping at it but you can also use a heavier rod when around cover so it's a mixed bag.
