C4Dave Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 Happened to be in the area yesterday and swung by the Yellow Creek boat ramp. The parking lot was almost completely full with empty trailers! There were about 8 - 10 boats in the water by the docks waiting to go out or go in. It was crazy. All kinds of boats. Pontoons, lots of bass boats, and ski/pleasure boats. Heard from a friend that fishes Pickwick frequently and he hasn't ever seen so many boats on the lake during the week. I guess folks that aren't working because of the virus are out fishing. Quote

redux Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 This is why I am staying out of my boat until things get back to normal. I could drive out of my county to get to the open ramps, but am concerned about everything being packed with antsy people. The St. Johns is a bit of a show during regular weekends and I am in no mood to get run down, buzzed, waked, crowded, or otherwise pushed off a spot or placed in danger. The bigger lakes can't be any better. Thankfully I am surrounded by small lakes that don't have ramps but are easy to launch a kayak into. Stay safe. 1 Quote
The Bassman Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 I'm fortunate in that I walk HOA lakes. In the past month I've seen maybe a total of five people fishing and they were residents just a stone's throw from their house. This past weekend I enjoyed some of the best action so far catching at least 75-80 with several over 3lb. and one 5.37. We all want this pandemic to go away but at least I'm able to immerse myself in what I love (besides my wife lol). 1 Quote

And other people breaking there rods out in boredom. I get it and at least some r taking there little ones out .. most of them stick to the parking lot area.. the ones that venture down the trail is the problem. GReb Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Our ramps were closed due to party boaters who were packing 10 or more folks on a pontoon and driving to sandbars holding over a thousand people. They ruined it for the fishermen and the state claims they don’t have the resources to police it. Which is complete BS. 1 Quote

Here in MO, on our HOA lake over the weekend, it was packed. Solid stream of people, 2-3 fishing a 3 acre lake constantly. Most of them are not our subdivision residents, despite the prominent signage restricting fishing to residents only. Here in MO, outdoor activities are permitted so long as you maintain appropriate distance. Apparently, with nothing better to do, half our county decided to head out and go fishing this weekend, and there aren't a lot of spots to fish in our county. Those poor fish were getting bludgeoned with a steady pounding of big heavy spinnerbaits and buzzbaits on rope. I had to laugh b/c the water was gin clear this weekend, and barely a ripple on the surface--not exactly prime spinnerbait conditions. I tried to be a little sneaky so they wouldn't see that a t-rigged weightless fluke, on light line, fished very gently just off the bank, was working just a little better.? 1 Quote
