This has likely been covered but I have used Zara puppies for smallies a long time now.  It’s a good lure for sure.  One of my favourites.  Looking to do a spring tackle order and was maybe going to add some super spook jr.  will cast a bit better I was thinkin and maybe keep the rock bass away. Who has experience or a preference one way or the other?  I know I need to try one to know for sure but just stuck inside and looking for opinions & stories.

Super spook Jr for me. Like all Heddons, upgrade the hooks and you're all set.

The stock hooks on the Super Spook Jr. you see hanging from this smallie's mouth are cadmium plated. I sharpened each point before using.

One of my favorite WTD smallie topwaters out there. If it had any paint on it to start with, my bone colored Super Spook Jr wouldn't have any paint left on it.

I've heard this before.  I've gotta get one of these and was wondering if this is still the case with these "twisted trebles" they use on them now?

Are we not liking those?

I'm fine with the twisted trebles, some of the special edition baits came with. It's the dull stock hooks that I dislike.

I haven't bought a new Heddon that wasn't on Ebay in years, I'm guessing some of the baits I bought there may have been 5+ years old. Their new hooks may be better, but always worth checking.

Love me some Spook Jrs. Awesome bait. Personally, I replace the twisted trebles if they have them (w/ Gammis). Good intentions - bad design. Otherwise, have at it.

Oh man. Super spook jr is my favorite topwater lure. Ive had a lot of luck with it. I have a bone colored, baby bass, a black one, amd one that is chrome and blue. They have all worked. I use the bone and baby bass most of the time. You should try one, i think you will like it.

Excellent lures for both largemouth and smallmouth. I usually start with the silent Zara Spook first, and if they aren't liking that, a lot of times I'll switch to the Jr next. Quite often, either that smaller profile or the rattles just wakes them up and gets me a few more bites. I caught an almost 4lb pickerel on one two days ago.

Favorite colors are Bone, Black, and Fluorescent Green Crawdad.

The "Super Spook Jr." has always been my favorite member of the spook family,

and can hold its own against any topwater plug
