Cityangler7 Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 Hello Everyone, I hope everyone is doing well. I picked up the Dobyns Champion XP 764 CB for throwing crankbaits like a Norman NXS ,Dt 16 ,Hot Lips Express, etc, nothing heavier than 3/4oz. I have yet to use it, but now I'm questioning if I should of picked up the 804cb instead. Anyone have any insight or actual experience with the 764cb vs. the 804cb. In retrospect, I should of asked this question prior to purchasing the rod , you live you learn. Any and all input is appreciated. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted April 12, 2020 Super User Posted April 12, 2020 The 804CB might be better for throwing the 3/4oz cranks, but overall it's personal preference. The 804CB will cast further and keep you in the strike zone a little longer but the 764CB may keep them pinned better on smaller cranks. Also if you have a steep drop-off along a shoreline with overhanging trees - which is not a normal scenario but I do know a couple places that fit the bill, the 764CB will be easier to cast. Quote
clh121787 Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 Ive own both for some years now and use them both alot. Imo a dt16 would over power a 764. For me half ounce is the top of the sweet spot for 764. I also love throwin kt spoons and slabs for whites on these rods. To me 764/3xd, 804/5xd, 805/6xd, 806/10xd (or equivilent baits of different make) i also throw alot of 6th sense and some norman and a few others. But that is the perfect match for my cranking needs. 1 Quote
