Ideal Keitech Swing Impact Fat trailer size

If I would like to use some Keitech Swing Impact Fat for trailers on 3/8 and 1/2 oz chatter and spinner baits what is the best size to get? Ideally I would like to not have to bite some off each time and have it appropriately sized compared to the rest of the bait.

I like the 3.8 and I don't use the Keitech brand baits for trailers. If I'm using a swimbait trailer on a chatterbait or swim jig in that size I like the Eco Pro Tungsten Swing Shad, they are tougher plastic and will last a lot longer but they still have great action. Keitechs are better when they are the primary lure as the action is there even at super slow speeds. For a trailer the bait doesn't have to have the best action because the lure will help the trailer.

I agree with @smalljaw67, Fat Impacts are not the best options for trailers as they are quite vulnerable to tail bite-off and have an incredibly aggressive wiggle even at a slower travel speed when you use them as a trailer.  For me the Keitechs are best on a light jighead, like 1/8-3/16oz, or nail-weighted.  For trailers I prefer the SK Rage Swimmers for durability and action reasons.

I use Keitechs for chatter and spinnerbaits.  I use mainly the 3.8 inch.   In fact now that I think of it, I only use the 3.8 inch for those two presentations.  I use 3.8 and 4.3 for swim jigs and underspins.

don't use keitechs for chatter baits, the rolling and chattering action counter act each other. if you are going to spend a dollar a bait, use a lure like the Yamamoto zako that was made for chatter baits. keitechs work great on their own or on swim jigs

Keitechs are my favorite chatter bait trailer around, the only thing it that you have to rig the upside down. Right side up the actions dont match up but if you flip it upside down than the action is perfect. Try it before you say it doesn’t work. Another great way to use a keitech on a chatterbsit is to cut the paddletail off of it right where the tail meets the paddle. It leaves a piece of plastic that looks like a tail but doesn’t swim in its own. When the blade moves it gives the soft plastic of the keitech action that matches up perfectly with the blade.

I feel the same way. And I have been preaching and practicing that WAY before I ever heard of Tactical Bassing. But I'm glad my opinion is validated by guys who know what they are doing.

 

Zako, beavers, D-shad, and other " dead action" baits for the chatterbait 

 

Grubs, Keitechs, and other "action tail" baits for swim jigs.

 

There's been one odd exception to the above....for some reason, once in a while, a single tail grub kicks butt on a chatterbait. I don't know why. It looks stupid.

I use the Spunk Shad from Hog Farmer. That pin tail dances behind a bladed jig or a scrounger.

I fish this on a scrounger head. It's a deadly technique. Not sure why the scrounger isn't talked about more in the fishing world.

couldn't agree more. Forgot to mention the upside down keitech trick, I just don't use it that much.

 

I love the SIFs on swim jigs along with grubs

I really wish this bait came in a perch color I would definitely use it
