Soft plastic swimbaits

If y'all could use 1 size swimbait like the keitech style for all around use for like chatter bait trailers, belly weighted hook, open hook jig head, etc. What would it be....3.5"? 4"?

I use the Cabela's Swim Minnow that comes in 3.5" and 5". I mostly use the 5", except for when using an underspin weighted hook, then the 3.5"

 

Over all I guess I'll against the grain and say the 5" in that style bait for most of the applications you mentioned.

It will catch 12" bass as well 5lbers and everything in between.

You can TRig them with a 2/0 or 3/0 EWG. Add a weighted hook, bullet weight...etc

 

They make a really good jig trailer and

they are the top of the swim bait market.

 

People complain about them not holding up, but fish have a REALLY HARD TIME letting go of them. Small price to pay, for catching fish.

TBH most of the time I have an issue with them is when a poor trailer keeper tears through them. If the trailer keeper is solid and has a good grip of them I can usually use them for at least 3 or 4 fish.

The same is true for almost any bait, not just keitechs. I’ve seen some pretty odd keepers on different jig heads that destroy soft plastics. And while the keitechs are great trailers on spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and swim jigs I’ve found two cheaper alternatives. The Eco Pro Tungsten Swing Shad is identical to the keitech, has lots of great color choices and is noticeably more durable. The tail on the eco pro probably needs more speed to kick compared to the keitechs. Another alternative is the XZone Swammer which has a different profile and not much color choice but the action on the bait is insane. The whole bait wobbles when you retrieve it on an exposed jighead..pretty awesome. Xzone’s 4” is basically the same size as Keitechs 3.8”. Would give those two baits a try as your new trailers if you’re worried about hook keepers tearing up your keitechs.
