Pogues2300 Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 Wondering if this would work well as a frog rod that doubles as punching rod in Minnesota cover. I've never owned a heavy rod or have done much punching but it looks fun. If anyone owns the rod what dio you use it for? Thanks Quote
Super User FishTank Posted April 10, 2020 Super User Posted April 10, 2020 St.Croix Legend Tournament? I do not own this rod but I was looking it over to purchase myself last year. I had it in my hands ready to buy at this years Boat, Sport and Travel Show but changed my mind and ended up getting an NRX instead (for a totally different purpose). The reason I changed my my mind was that I already have a 7' Heavy G. Loomis IMX that I use for frogs and heavy jigs. The St. Croix LT 7'4'' is a stout rod, almost too much power for what I would use it for, and it seemed tip heavy. With that said, I think it would be an excellent rod for punching and frogs paired with the right reel. Also, I can't say for sure but the tip of the rod seemed a little soft which is great for frogs and maybe punching but I tend to like a stiffer tip for jigs. Quote

Definitely a good rod for a frog/flip/light punch rod. Quote

Miken216 Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 I just got the legend x 7’11 specifically for pitching flipping and punching but I purchased be fore this rod the legend xtreme 2020 7’4 h/f I’m going to use that for frogs/punching heavy cover because I already have the zillion hd 7.3 on it With 65lb suffix I’m grabbing the tatula elite p/f and I’m going to put 25lb floral on that and maybe just rotate reels to what kind of fishing I’m doing because I know that 7’11 is about to do wonders what’s y’all think Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 I've got that rod in a Legend Xtreme(older version). Its a stout rod. Its one of my go to rods. I use it a lot for heavier jigs, fishing grass, some froggin, c rig, and a few other things. If the weeds get too thick or I need something with more power I move to my 7'11 xtreme. 1 Quote
Basswhippa Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 My son has the 7'4" Rage version. Many a Guntersville bass has been pulled from various vegetation over the years. Excellent rod. Quote
Fishing_FF Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 I have the SC Legend X 7'4" HF along with an pair of Avid X 7'F" HF. I use the Legend X as a T-rig (3/8oz tungsten weight with 7-12" worms) and jig (1/2oz or more) rod. The Legend X is a stout rod, but not near as stout as the Avid X. One of the Avid Xs is my pitching and punching rod while the other I use for glide baits, A-rigs, and flutter spoons. I've thrown frogs on the Avid X 7'4" HF, but I find it is a bit overkill for a Scum frog as that stout of a rod with 65lbs braid will start to open up the hooks. Quote
