Lipless cranks and paint coming off?

Is there one don’t get me wrong I love days like today when you’re done fishing and half the paint is gone you caught so many I mainly use red eye shad’s . But I would like some that this won’t happen with

Yeah I feel the same of this new RES. I think I only caught 2-3 fish and paint half off and it happen to be the same color, chrome sexy shad?

Yep chrome sexy shad I’m gonna paint it just not sure what color yet.

The RES are really bad about it but if you are throwing them in and around rocks, they will all do it on the nose end. I liked the Xcalibur lipless (now Booyah) but have since switched to the Spro Aruku and they seem to hold up a lot better than the RES.

I can't address the Red Eye Shad and paint issues, (I don't have any)  however, my favorite lipless crank is the discontinued Berkley Frenzy.  I've got 5 left.   These seem to get better as I've knocked some of the paint off of them.   I wouldn't change anything.  I'd keep throwing that particular bait until I was totally convinced that the lack of paint was the reason it wasn't getting bit.

I love the Aruko shad however the red eye shad has the wobble on the fall and for that reason I can’t rule them out of my tool box. Speaking of the Aruko shad I need to restock I only have two left?

I have had a few of the Red Eye Shads and the ones I bought last year all did this.  I can't remember the exact colors but I had them in perch, chrome blue, and a sexy shad color.  They ended up in the trash just after 2 or 3 outings.  I caught a few fish but nothing spectacular.  I have yet to replace them.  I still like the Xcalibur XR50 and XR100 the best followed by the Lucky Craft LC's.

Yup, battle scars rock. Paint jobs catch more fishermen than fish anyway. I’m tempted to buy some blanks and fish them bare just to see what happens.

I don't worry too much about damage to my crank or jerk paintjobs. Just seems to me that they'll look more like injured baitfish and there-by be more attractive - ambush predators like bass go after the weak and injured as they're easier catches.

It was definitely getting bit this morning. Then I lost the dam thing it had some mojo.

I can’t believe you threw them away just because of the chipped paint some ppl like them like that you can also repaint them.

I don't have a problem with the paint coming off rattle baits. In fact, I always scrape about half of the chrome off of a blue/chrome or black/chrome Rattle Trap before I ever throw it. I believe it helps me catch more fish.

This morning I tied on a different one same color and it’s chrome not white so they must have used different color blanks.

They weren't producing, one of the eyes were missing on each bait, the hooks were bad, and the paint would flake off in my hand and in the bait box.  I think I paid about $3-$4 each for these.  Not worth the trouble to repair when I have or can get better quality baits.

No telling how many fish I've caught on this 2tap, paint is holding up pretty well all things considered. I love battle scarred baits, fish eat them better. A beat up baitfish is easier to catch.

I just bought a RES, but have never used one. My most used lipless (all last season) was a River2Sea ruckus and it looks brand new still. I fished it a lot.

i remember as a kid hearing that if you ever had a chance to use a bait out of someone's tackle box, go for the most beat up lure they have - cause they most likely caught a ton of fish on it.

 

My Aruku shad is missing an eye and look like I drug it over miles of street. I actually snagged it and went back 1 month later during lower water looking for it - I got it back. have to replace the hooks/split rings on it but I believe I have caught over 300 fish on that one alone.

The lures that have lost most of the paint are the ones I fear losing the most. I have an old Yo-zuri Rattling vibe that is destroyed, and its still the first one I tie on. 

 

Any lure that loses its paint and is all scratched and scuffed, is a lure that catches fish.

 

I dont like using new lures that have a ton of flash, they don't look natural to me, so I typically sand the sides of most of my hardbaits to take off some of the shine. If i want to use something bright, I will go with something orange or chartruese highlights.

I had a day a few years ago when I started out the day tossing a new RES. Over the course of the morning I boated a few using it, but noticed the paint peeling. Not wanting to waste time changing out to a different bait, I kept tossing it and it kept catching fish. I still use that bait and one eye and most of the paint is gone. I have two other RES with paint missing and they have never produced for me.........?
