I always have mixed feelings when I see this kind of video.   Sure, it is funny, BUT,  I've been there, not sinking a truck but plenty of other stupid stuff at the ramp and I feel kinda weird watching movies of guys tearing up their stuff.

The driver gets out of the truck yells " I'm in park.  I've been in park the whole time!".  So yeah, that sucks for them.  I wonder if he ever tried the brakes?  I ran into a similar situation a number of years ago with a Colorado I had.  I was on a hill that was ice covered and with it in park or just using the parking brake it would start to slide, but pushing the brake peddle I was OK.  The parking brake only locks the rear, not the front tires, so you lose a lot of grip just in park.  I had to use an ice scraper that I wedged on the brake peddle to the seat to lock all four wheels before I got out of the truck.  Fun times :P .

I don't find any humor in this at all. The current is swift and the guys are wearing coats, meaning the water is cold.  The driver of the truck of course wasn't wearing a life vest.

A dangerous situation.

Friend of mine always puts his truck in 4WD then park.

Guessing he's seen a few videos.

If you look at the hubcaps on the truck, they aren't turning.  He probably was in park.

Looks like it is just freely sliding with the tires not moving which makes me think: ICE.

Might have been cold enough that there was thin layer of ice on the ramp from other boats going in/out. Being in park, having the parking break on or being in 4WD wouldn't do much in an ice situation. I am always really careful late season here in MN at the launch just the that reason. If you don't walk the ramp before backing down it, you might never even know. Doesn't take much water to freeze to cause some serious issues.

A couple of years ago I arrived early morning at the state park ramps to launch to be met by a ranger who told me to launch at the next ramp, since this one is occupied.  As I went by to the next ramp I looked into the water and saw the roof of a car just under the surface.  When returned hours later it was gone and I never could find out what the heck happened.

We used to practice airfield seizures in the military, with Humvees strapped down with ratchet straps and in low range with the diffs locked (military Humvees were all-time 4wd).  On touching down, the loadee would let the assault force know when the aircraft slowed to a certain speed, and we'd break down the straps.  One time the aircraft had to break hard, and the front (loaded aft in the fuselage) Humvee skidded several feet into the rear Humvee.  Fortunately no one was hurt, but our procedures changed and the aircraft had to slow quite a bit more before we broke down straps.  I don't know what the force pulling on this truck in the video is versus the force pushing the Humvee forward in that C-141, but it makes you realize that once you're counting on traction and it's overcome you're in a position for a tragedy.  I know since that incident, I'm a lot more careful when I put cars on ramps or jacks to set 4wd, parking brakes, check the wheels, etc. to a greater extent than I think necessary.

Every boat ramp I’ve ever seen has big rip rap. I put one behind my tire every time I launch. If for whatever reason I can’t find one, I keep a brick and a rip rap in the back of my truck

as for the video, his backup lights were on almost until the tailgate hit the water. I also go to neutral when I get within a few hundred feet of the water

We were taking out on the New river one day and saw some kid with a lifted Jeep Wrangler and big 33's running around the water and acting like an idiot.  He found one of the 5' holes at the edge of the bank and got bogged down nose first and drowned his motor.

He starts yelling for help.

The guy I was with let out a sigh and unhooked his boat, backed down and told the kid to wade to shore, get the chain and hook it up to his Jeep.

The kid wanted one of us to come to him and hook it up because he didn't know how to swim. He might have been 17.

My buddy called him a dumb ass and told him he was going to sink or swim.

Long story short, we got him out of the river and he used my phone to call his dad.

If we would've had time, it would have been interesting to stick around to watch his dad show up.

I know right where that is, I camped close to there once fishing the White River for trout. Honestly, they probably could just stand up most areas through there and walk out of the river, but that water is still cold all year round since it's coming from the bottom of a big lake (Bull Shoals).

No one was hurt.  Pride yes.  It was not a video of tragedy.    I don't care who you are, you're a boat owner you've done something dumb at the ramp or just head bad luck.  This does not excuse any of us. I know I backed in without my plug and thankfully I tied to the short at day before parking the truck... Usually I leave it tied out b deeper water.

these videos always teach me something, that you never know. They're plenty of videos and shows where the ramps are to mossey and no matter what you do, four-wheel-drive, you slip right in.

if you read that Twitter comments, that's really where the humor comes from. The people who record this video said there was a whole lot of drama before this happened.  Take. All the context.

Now if anyting, many people like to get upset with people at the ramp. Most people just watch out of frustration as others who can't back their boat up or do other things that inconvenience us.  Same as in the gym.

Differencewith me anytime I've ever been at that ramp and I see someone in trouble or looks like they need help, I always step in. Some people are too prideful and they always say no, but many appreciate someone stepping in rather than sitting back talking and being upset.

Humor is always hindsight, again there was no tragedy. I know I can laugh at myself and I have plenty of video with me where I'm laughing at myself as well as other people are in the comments.  Can always learn a lesson, and the best experience always have something funny. Even these guys may one day laugh about this... Always good to smile that you still have your little Ife despite the situation, by the grace of God of course.

It’s never good to see that  if you take the time to walk down the boat ramp first you might be able to anticipate a problem such as that happening  I think that if you are smart enough you might think to bring a tow strap or change  and find a spot to attach your truck to it with enough slack to be able to launch your boat and that way of your truck starts sliding down the ramp the strap or change will stop your truck from taking a swim
