Definitely grab a slammer, you can get them used with some hook rash for probably 20 less than retail. I like the single joint 9 inchers the best personally.

Ever get any from ebait says ships directly from mike Shaw allow 6/10 weeks for arrival. Was thinking 2 a light and dark. Any color recommendations

I've got a Purple Nitro, Shad, and custom painted one that looks like a skunk. All 3 of them are killer baits. I'd still really love an all white one though.

If it were me I'd go 168, G2 shell cracker, weedless Hudd 68, and a spro rat 40 size (30 will underpowered that rod).

And the hood news is that rod allows for a lot of growth for if you want to step up and get like 9 inch slammers and stuff.

Nice, thank.

I'd also kinda in the same boat and I'm trying to keep things relatively simple...

Glide baits: one shad profile, one bluegill profile

Options include S-Wavers, Ima Glide Flukes, Jackal Gantarel, Savage Gear and Storm offerings

Jointed baits: one shad profile, one bluegill profile

Options include: Bull shads, 6th Sense and Savage Gear offerings

Softbody baits: one shad profile, one bluegill profile

Options include: Megabass Magdrafts, Huddlestons, Jerry Rago, Storm/Berkley prerigged, Mattlures, etc

Thanks bud.

Just curious why are you guys recommending the smaller rats. Isn’t the 40 just about one ounce if I remember correctly. Can that rod not throw the 50 size?

Did your rod come in.

No, still haven't seen the rod but did finally get an email saying they do have the order in their system and will ship soon.

Bucca Bull Gill Slow Sink, Shellcracker G2, MegaBass Magdraft Freestyle. Right at your budget and these 3 versatile baits will attract any size bass and cover the column nicely.

Nice, thanks.

Go to walmart and get some packages of Berkley powerbait shads. They are $2.99 for a pack of 4 or 5 depending on the size you decide on. Hooked, and weighted right out of the package. I have great luck with them and losing one is about  40 cents.

I found that less expensive is sometimes just as good.

Y'all got me smacking my lips at the MS Slammer.

It'll have to wait, the tarpon will be inshore soon and I plan to put some Savage Gear Pulse Tail Mullets to work.

I don't know how long I can resist the monkey.

They're fun baits to fish. I've had just as much luck slow waking them over open water/grass flats as I have just target casting shallow lay downs and twitching it in place. And some of them will crank down fairly well too.

I also find the bite is MUCH more subtle than you'd expect. They usually just kind of slurp it down, not really a big explosion like I expected.

I would take $30 of that and buy some 65lbs Power pro maxcuatro and then use the big game as a leader but that’s just my way of fishing.

i would for sure go with the s waver 168, I like light trout or the perch color because yellow perch is usually what I’m immitating, but go with what your forage is.

i would get 2-3 colors of 5.8-6.8 keitechs. Amazing way to get used to throwing a bigger bait and still get a good number of bites. Get owner beast 6/0 for the 5.8 and 8/0 6.8

id also get a megabass magdraft. If your usually wanting a weed less bait get the freestyle And rig it on one of the owner beast hooks

If you are planning on doing the whole creeping bottom super slow thing than I would get either an all American trash fish or a 4d savage gear trout.

if you are planning on fishing deeper than I’d get an osprey tournament talon in either 6 or 7 inch

if you want a wake bait than the floating 8 inch bbz isn’t a bad option, although personally I’d probably get a bigger rat before that.

if I had to spend $100 for my fishery though I’d probably spend it all in 5.8-7.8 keitechs and magdraft freestyles, I just have the most confidence in those for how I fish.

Do you use the weighted beast hooks or regular? I'm about to order some big Keitechs.

Wow, that's one realistic-looking bait. Even the blood looks real. Ohh, that's the bass you say? ?

Just an fyi It all depends on how deep and fast you fish them, the 6/0 weighted beast only comes in 1/4oz which is too heavy to fish the 5.8 real slow in the 1-5’ range which is where and how I fish them 80-90% of the time, it works great though if you’re targeting deeper fish or want to burn it shallower. You’re better off buying the unweighted beast or trokar hook and weighing them yourself, bps makes hook shank weights. The 5.8 with a 6/0 (beast) or 5/0 (Trokar) 1/8oz weighted hook is my shallow go to.

I have a cheap mini torch I use to melt of a little lead to get the weight I want.  I use lead wire to add weight.

Yeah, probably not fishing either size Keitech deeper than 5'. Thanks bud

I use the 6/0 1/4 oz beast hooks for the 5.8 if I’m not fishing super slow and there’s weeds, a 3/8- 1/2oz Matt Allen swimbait head if I’m around rocks or if I want something lighter I have these weedless 6/0 1/8th underspins where you can remove the blade but I very rarely find I need to go that light as the 5.8 has enough lift from the tail to keep it up with the 1/4.

For the 6.8 I throw them on the 8/0 or 10/0 owner beast majority of the time but I have had success fishing for deep pike around reefs with the 3/4 oz Matt Allen swimbait head and just bite a little bit of the head of the bait off.

Ive had success fishing both on the owner beast flashy swimmer as well, especially when throwing the for musky, but use them plain the majority of the time.

Curious about how you do this, you wrap the lead wire around the hook and melt it in place?

Not exactly what I was trying to say.  I use the torch to remove lead if there is too much weight.  I use lead wire to add weight.  I use thin wire and wrap tightly and normally I don't need superglue.   Heating lead wire on hook will not work.  It will just drop off.

So just wanted to update this thread. I've gotten bit by the swimbait bug and overspent my previous $100 limit. Here's what I've acquired since making this post back in April. Still waiting on my backordered S waver 168 lite trout. I think this should keep me busy for a while. I was really lucky to grab the Gill glide and the WCZ battle shad as both sold out in minutes of dropping.

I've yet to fish it but it looks like a quality bait that'll get bit, and well priced IMO.
