Had some sun & warmer air temps today so I washed, clayed, polished & wax the Pro-V Bass.

Came out really nice.

Now if we could just get a little open water . . .

Where are you in MI that doesn't have open water? The lakes in West Michigan have had open water for the better part of 30 days.

I am up in Otsego County - 40 minutes south of the bridge.

Lakes here are still frozen over.

Close to open next few days I'd guess.

The wait is a little brutal but

- the reward is decent.

During the past four weeks of sheltering in place, I’ve been using my copious non-fishing time to conduct a little fishing related maintenance. I’m cleaning up my rod and reels, specially reel handles and upgrading drags with Carbontex washers. I went through all my newer reels, and now my “OG” Curados that continue to function like the day I bought ‘em. Geez, I wonder...

Sweet reels! I have 4 (used to have 10 - dam kids) that I bought around 1990. Just had the first one start making a terrible noise when casting. All are oiled up and working great now

I've been pouring worms, jigs, and changing hooks on crankbaits.

Forgive my ignorance...what does clayed mean?

It's a product usually used on vehicles.

  • An essential step to prepare paint for polishing and waxing
  • Removes sap, bird droppings, and other contaminants
  • Leaves paint completely smooth
  • Regular use helps prevent oxidation
  • Allows for more effective polishing and waxing

There are two more common 'types"

 This is the older style

This is the newer version

When done correctly, it really makes a significant difference in the finish.

Those Curados are true works of art. I wish I had bought one back then. I had it in my hands but didn’t pull the trigger. I bought 2 spinning reels instead ?

Couldn’t agree with you @NYWayfarer more about the Curados, they are built like tanks. This was the first time I cracked them open since day one. The OG gears are much beefier compared to the newer models gears. Only maintenance I did all these years was wipe them down, oil the bearings and rub a little Carnuba wax on ‘em. By the way, Smelly Jelly glitter does have a tendency to get everywhere ?.

I think these rod handles came out nice after the U-40 treatment.

be well

Been working on my canoe relineing my rods and letting the bait monkey loose on the tackle box stocking up ?

Well I do have a new rod to spool up, have been putting that off as I haven't brought out the frogs yet this season but the majority of my next few weeks will be spent rigging out my kayaks. I have anchor trolleys to add, a rudder keeper and beyond that everything else is figured out which tracks to mount everything to. I also have a trailer to build.
