Whenever I push the button to allow my reel to free spool, the line starts to free spool and then stops mid free spool. When it stops, a bit of line comes off my spool and is tangled a bit. What is wrong? I've re-spooled multiple times trying to fix and it didn't seem to help. Thanks for your help.

A picture would help, but I have a few questions:

What kind of reel?

How heavy of a lure?

Have you checked the guides?

Have you checked the line guide to make sure it is free, clean and clear?

What kind of line?

How tight is the spool tension?

Loose line on the spool, possibly some loops that could be the problem. Yeah pic's would help.

Ill try and respond with a pic tomorrow.

It is happening on my Shimano Citica

No matter the weight of the lure, it always occurs

Rod is brand new, barely used, so guides are fine and look fine. They are all clean

It is 20 lb kastking braid

The spool tension isn't very tight, but no matter how tight is still does it.

Funny - I have 50# Power Pro on my Fuego CT-XS on a Diawa Aird-X 7' H/F and 20# Power Pro on my President on a Diawa Aird-X 6'6" M/F...never had that issue.

I have a Citica, never had any issues, well, after I added some oil to the spool bearings.

20lb braid is pretty dang light for a baitcaster. I would respool with say at least 40 lb braid.

They are great rods, I love them.

Try switching from braid to mono or FC and see if the same thing happens.

Intermittent spool spinning is usually caused by the line digging in or a bad spool bearing.

I know - I have two others in my arsenal.

I'm thinking one of two things - could be a combo

1) Improper tension when spooling up the line - line should be snug on the reel, but not so tight it starts digging in

2) Brake(s) set improperly.

Some will say never go below 30# braid on a BC - maybe to start, but I've not had problems with 20# myself.

Thank you man, I appreciate the input.
