Finessegenics Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 Which one is a better choice as a finesse jig trailer? I've never fished either so how do the actions compare? I cant get a look at them at tackle shops since most around here don't carry them and they've all been shut down due to covid anyways. I will most likely end up getting both but I plan to buy in bulk so I want to give my wallet a fighting chance. Quote
basser27 Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 Never used either but I don’t think you can go wrong with either one. The rage bug is a bulkier bait compared to the menace. I use Yamamoto twin tail grubs Or tiny paca chunks on my smaller profile jigs 1 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted April 1, 2020 Super User Posted April 1, 2020 Baby rage bug for your application. 1 Quote
Westcoast Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 I think the baby bug works better on a finesse jig as the tails activate easier with the lighter weight and slower falls. 1 Quote

Not sure how the downsized versions of the SK Rage Menace or Bug work versus their larger brothers - but they are expensive for what you get ! You may want to do yourself a favor and look at the following finesse trailers : Zoom Fat Albert Twin Tail Trailer , Creepy Crawler Twin Tail Trailer , Net Bait Paca Chunk (Regular or Tiny) . For a finesse swim jig trailer a Zoom Fat Albert Grub or Kalins 3" Lunker Grub would work well . For the trailers I list you could buy twice as many of packs versus the baby menace or baby rage bug . For the price , SK should offer double the amount of baby versions per pack as they do the regular size menace or bug . 1 Quote

They’re not “true” finesse jigs. They still have heavy gauge flipping hooks but much shorter shanks with the finesse cut skirt. I’m talking about the War Eagle Heavy Finesse Jig and The Santone Finesse Jig, both have ball heads. I’m going to be dragging and hopping bottom with them. I know 3”-3.5” trailers are the ideal size for them. Thank you for your input, the rage bugs are especially expensive and sometimes we overlook the classic twin tail grub. Quote

I’m already dead set on the full size menace and rage bug for swing heads! Pretty much the 2 baits almost everyone suggests for swing heads. Quote
plawren53202 Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 I use both of them. I think the Rage Bug would work better for a finesse jig application. The slightly wider beaver style body should let your jig fall a little slower. I like the Menace mainly as a chatterbait trailer. 1 Quote

If I'm trying to mimic a crawdad (green pumpkin or brown, fishing it more on the bottom, etc.) I rig it conventional; if I'm trying to mimic a shad or bluegill (obviously whites for shad, brown or green pumpkin for bluegill, but fishing it more like a spinnerbait) I rig it on its side. I also leave the tails attached if I'm rigging it on its side. Seems to work well like that, as well as conventional style like a crawdad. 1 Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 I'm a huge fan of the Menace but the Baby bug is sweet too. Dont forget to look at the Ned bug. We have all 3 models in stock in almost all the colors. https://siebertoutdoors.com/products/ols/categories/rage-tail 1 1 Quote

Ogandrews Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 I fish “finesse” flipping jigs like your talking about more than any other jig combined. Most of the time in 1/4 oz. Almost 100% of the time I’m using a rage menace. If I want it to be more subtle I will go with the baby, if it’s warmer water I’ll go with the regular size with a couple rings bit off. I honestly haven’t tried the baby bug but I have used the regular one on full sized jigs and had amazing success so I know the smaller size would work. The thing I really like about the menace is that it keeps the small profile of a finesse jig with its narrower body. It has great kick on the way down even with really light weights, I fish it all the time on a 1/10th oz mushroom head and it still kicks perfectly. I know people think that it’s an expensive bait but you 100% get what you pay for. There’s no bait I have as much confidence in that’s in the craw/creature category. Only other bait I have used a lot for this scenario is a smallie beaver with a few rings bit off, works great when you want a more subtle presentation. 1 Quote
