Daiwa Tatula XT or Tatula if you can find a deal.

You're going to get a lot of different answers, been quite a few threads like this. Quite a few out there on the market that are pretty good quality for that price.

I'd say Dobyns Fury, Tatula XT, or find a deal on a St. Croix Mojo Bass.

I have found it best to first determine what materials you want in a rod.

Ie cork, Eva, Wynn grips / micro, semi micro, or regular guides, hook keeper style, color of the blank (if you care).

For me personally, I would highly recommend the BPS Carbonlites, own two of them and love them. Then Fenwick HMG line, St Croix Mojo line. Hear Dobyns fury line is good but no experience. Fenwick and st croix fish heavier than their rating ie a medium light is more of a medium. It's personal preference really.

I'd consider looking at the Major Craft Nanoace rods, they run $99.99-$129.99 but I feel they fish well above their price point. As mentioned above, the Dobyns Fury, Tatula XT and St Croix Mojo rods are also good options. Tackle Warehouse usually has a tax stimulus sale but I'm not sure if its happening this year with actually tax day being pushed back

You would have to find a Fury or Mojo Bass on sale to make the $100 cut-off.  Now if that "best $100 rod" means any 3-digit whole number starting with 1, then there are plenty more rods that can be added to your list of options.  :teeth:

But at $100 I like my HMGs.  Other options...ones I have not tried...are the Lancer Pro and Tatula XT (7'4" and longer run $120) and Lew's TP-1.  The Ark Viper is a $100 on sale for $60 at TW.  I have an Ark Sniper and 2 Tharp rods, but they have seen very limited use.  Like them so far.  I have a few of the original Tatulas (paid $100 or less new), and feel they are a great value.  You probably won't find any regular Tatulas at $100 (new) anymore.

I have an original Omen Black.  It is a nice rod EXCEPT you should really cast 2-handed with it.  One-handed feels like you are going to cast the rod with the lure (and is why the seller gave me a great deal on the rod).  Hopefully the Omen 2 rods rectified that.

No where near $100, but the Aird X gets good reviews. Irod seldom gets mentioned.  The Fiber is a $100 rod.  Sportsman's Guide has the Shimano SLX for $100.  The Carbonlite 2 is currently on sale for $95.  Lots of people here have praised the Carbonlite 2.  Check out the Fenwick Eagle ($70).

You can find some nice deals if you don't mind used.  I picked up a couple Genesis II rods for less than $100 shipped.  Nice looking rods.  Only out once with them so far, but liked them enough to pick up a third at the same price.  :D

I have zero experience with KastKing, but have read a few reviews praising them at their price.

Frog        = Fury 735c, Sierra 735c                          $72, $108

Senko     = Sierra 703c, 733c                                  $108

Jig          = Fury 734c, Sierra 735c                           $72-$108

Jerkbait   = Fury 663c, 703c, 705cb, Sierra 683c       $72, $108

Swimbait = Fury 795c                                             $72

+$25 Shipping for all of them.

I've heard good things about the Tatula's also, but I'm unfamiliar with their rod lineup and warranty.

Also,the new St.Croix Mojo's, but I think they are over $100.

  • I personally wouldn't recommend a Shimano SLX (balance) or a 13 Fate Black (build quality)

Falcon bucoo sr is a solid stick at the $100 price point. They're a little overrated on power. Plenty light and sensitive though. Lots of good options for an angler for that cost.

Is it possible that the "best" $100 crankbait rod isnt made by the same company that makes the "best" $100 frog rod? Most of the guys I know would be fishing with entirely different equipment if they had to choose it blindfolded. In most cases they would be much better off!

My ex-wife won a Loomis rod as a door prize once, spent an entire day shopping for a a reel at 5 different sporting goods stores, and bought a Shakespeare reel to put on it....because the color matched.

Major Craft rods are constructed with Toray blanks....superior to graphite in nearly every department.

   In what way are Toray not graphite? I know that Toray makes composite materials, but those are usually termed as (and advertised as) "composite". Some of those are really, really nice. Were those what you were thinking of?

   Most of the advertised Toray products in this country are, however, graphite. Marketing incentives and all that. Just because a company describes their products using a different word doesn't mean that there is any major difference. That's just advertising hype .... all to common today.

In fishing rods, composite generally refers to a mixture of graphite and glass. Toray is also called carbon fiber. While both toray and graphite have carbon as their base element, their structures are as different as coal and diamonds.

Toray uses a material known as polyacrylonitrile. This is a different material than Boron buffered graphite. Im no chemist, but here is a link to the technical stuff.

https://www.torayca.com/en/aboutus/abo_001.html

In fishing rods this can be identified by the opaque, flat black color on the blanks. Graphite is translucent and unpainted rods blanks allow light to pass through. Rod blanks built using an equal amount of Toray compared to graphite are stronger, and Toray blanks of same strength are lighter. Toray rods also tend to have a more progressive load pattern.

I bought the pitching stick of this line. I like it so much I'm going to replace my older heavier rods with it. I have an older LowRider so I knew the quality was going to be good for the money.

Blending graphite with boron put gary Loomis on the map in the 70's. Rods constructed with this basic process are what are commonly referred to as graphite today. Toray is a more pure form of carbon with the next essential element being nitrogen. Some of bbthe new nano carbon blanks are amazing. I have a rod built on an American Tackle "nanophene" blank that has a tip like an ultra light with a 4.5/64" tip  diameter and a a butt diameter of less than 3/8" and it will cast a 3 oz bait just as hard as you want to throw it. This nano tech is how Dobyyns Xstacy rods are built.
