I took my kayak out for the first time this year two weeks ago and used my new Garmin 73sv for the first time as well.  I ended up flipping and the untit got submerged for about 20 minutes.  It was still working after I got it out of the water but after sitting in my garage for two weeks it no longer powers on.  I'm assuming Garmin won't cover that under warranty.  Can I get the unit fixed or am I just SOL?

Wow, sorry to hear.  I guess I'll wait to see how it turns out for you.

 

Last year I accidentally left my electronic wire tracing equipment on a customers back lawn.  The sprinklers came on overnight and put about 3" of water in there.  I took it home, completely disassembled it down to the circuit boards and set it on the patio table in the summer sun.  It actually worked when I reassembled it.

 

But I didn't have a screen obviously.  Best of luck to you.

Wow you’re lucky. We’ve all left our locating equipment out overnight at a customers house. I don’t know about your equipment but mine goes for around $4k brand new. 
 

@Hawkeye21 you can send it in to Garmin, they’ll fix it. It will be cheaper than buying another. Garmin has great customer support, they might just fix it or replace it free of charge, you never know.

You might check the fuse in the power cord first and see if it blew. Check your battery voltage too. Good luck!

I'm going to try and do some troubleshooting on my own to see if I can get it to work.  If I can't get it to work I'll contact Garmin.

Electronics are fine to be wet. You have to let them 100% dry before using to use them beforehand risk the chance of frying and making our parable damage. I would send them Garmin.  They have solid customer service.  I have used them and that makes me continue to buy from them.

My buddy had one of his garmin 73sv quit powering on. I spent an hour tracing all the wiring and checking fuses. His was the mounting cradle. I have the same units so I tried one of my cradles and it worked.  Ordered him a new cradle and all has been well.  Maybe something to check into. Try a lil contact cleaner on the connector to the cradle and see if it helps

Submerge the unit into a big bowl of dry rice for a few days and then see if it turns on. That's an under the table iphone trick from Apple if you drop your iphone into water......

I bought a new mounting cradle and it still didn't work.  I was about to give up but thought I'd try a new fuse even though it looked like it was still good.  I put in a new fuse and it turned right on.

That’s why if you own a boat or even just marine electronics, having a volt meter is a good idea. Checking voltages or for blown fuses saves a lot of time and makes troubleshooting problems so much easier and cheaper that spending money on things that aren’t broken.
