I received a Lowrance HOOK2-5X with SplitShot as a gift and installed on my Old Town Loon 126 kayak  with the transducer reading through the hull. The only problem is the HDI screen never shows the bottom. Lowrance said that HDI deosnt work shooting through the hull. Anyone had any success reading HDI through the hull?

They're right.  I use a Lowrance Hook5 and mounted my transducer with Lowrance's scupper mount.  It's just above the bottom of the kayak so it reads fine and is safe from 99% of what's out there.

Thanks for the quick reply my yak is a sit in so no scupper holes. If this isn't going to shoot thru the hull I can put it on my trolling motor on my bass boat.

if you stick to lower frequencies (83/200) and make sure you've not zoomed in (use the (-) button for out and (+) for in) you'll be OK.

Consider a second mounting kit with and transfer the head between your boat and kayak.  I have a second kit and trolling motor so I have a fish finder when I rent boats at the Quabbin Reservoir out here.
