Quarry Man Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 my lake has one end with deep clear rocks, and another end with shallow mud and some submeged timber. Which is the better place to focus? water temps still in the 40's Quote

We got a lake here that I'd love to try out...and it's public. Problem it, it's totally surrounded by private property, I'd have to find someone willing to give me permission to fish and/or launch the canoe from their property. Quote

papajoe222 Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 The shallow end is going to warm more quickly than that deep clear end Depending on the size of the lake, there could be a significant difference until things even out. If that shallow water is on the north, or east end of the lake, all the better. Areas protected from wind and wave action, ditto. This applies to fishing now. Once the fish start looking for places to spawn, they'll abandon muck bottom areas unless that is the only bottom content available. After the spawn through the summer, those clear rocks could be a prime area, but I have no experience with them. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 31, 2020 Super User Posted March 31, 2020 Somewhere between the rocks and the stumps there is a transition area, probably more than one. That is where I'd start. An area where the wind is blowing into the area would be best, imo. How big is the lake - is it is a fairly small lake, just fish it all. 3 or 4 trips and you could fish a most of the lake at different times of the day and decide for yourself where the best potential areas might be. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 31, 2020 Super User Posted March 31, 2020 Should determine why the off color water is warmer? Rain run off of warmer water would be my guess. 40 degree surface temps is cold and 42 degrees is still cold, 45 degrees is significantly warmer. Sonar is your friend use it to find the depth the life zone is and then go to the area of the lake where the off color water meets the clear water looking for fish activity and use lures that can get down to the fish. If the fish are bass you are going to catch a few. Tom 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 1, 2020 Super User Posted April 1, 2020 How big are those rocks? If they are gravel size you can crawl a jig across them very slowly. Quote
