Btw what is your favorite lipless crankbait. Mine is red eye Shad and spro aruku.

Most of the time I fish lipless baits with a yoyo retrieve in deep water . The 1/2 ounce Red Eye Shad is by far my favorite for largemouths . I have a few 3/4 ounce and havent caught a fish on one . I have a few 1/4 ounce ones and murder white bass , drum amd channel cats with them .

Size depends on what I’m doing. I often fish them on weedy flats. If the weed tops are two feet down, I’ll use a quarter oz. and burn it over the weed tops. Deeper weeds, lets me use heavier baits.

It also depends on the gear you're using. 1/2oz. may be a little much for spinning gear. The only time I go 3/4oz is when I want to get it deep and keep it there.

My favorite is no longer made, but I still have a few, the Diamond Shad by SK. Current production lure would be a Super Spot (Copper Craw).

Red eye shad, spro aruku shad (I prefer the jr) and also the cotton Cordell super spot.

Just like any other bait, it depends on the situation. My personal favorite is the 1/2 or 5/8oz, but when the shad are really small the 1/4oz will far outfish the 1/2oz.

I use 1/2 oz for Red Eye Shads and Rat L traps but love 5/8 oz in Yozuri Rattlin Vibes and 6th Sense Quakes/Thuds.  Yo Zuri makes a small 2.25” size but is also 3/8 oz.  So with the smaller profile and heavier weight, you can launch it a mile.

Some people swear by the LuckyCraft LV-500. I used to live just down the mountain a ways from Clear Lake and can second that.

Guiding in Northern Wisconsin the smaller LV-100's were devastating all the way to freeze-up on smallies. On tough days that had us looking for something different to get them to bite we would go with bigger lipless baits and found we caught more walleye and fewer bass. I dont know if this is due to a shorter season, colder water, different forage fish or something else, but size does seem to be at least somewhat relevant depending on your location.

I want to try the Red Eye Shads, and I have a couple Original Rattle traps, but lately I've been catching some on a $1.50 Ozark Trail Rattle. I did change out the hooks though. I like a 1/2 oz the best, fun to cast, but never tried a 3/4 yet.

Mostly throw half ounce lipless cranks, but I acquired a close out set of  Excaliber 3/4 oz lipless cranks and keep telling myself that I should throw them some.

My two favorite are spro aruku  jrs. And Cordell spots. So my favorite weights are 3/8 and 1/2 don't really have a lot of use for smaller or bigger where and how I fish.

I use 1/2 ounce Cordell spots, and Rat-l-traps the most.  If I'm fishing off of the bank I will sometimes use a 1/4 ounce for a slower fall.  In the fall sometimes the bass will go after a 3/4 trap better than the 1/2 ounce size.

1/2 ounce is favorite size, but there have been days where the 1/4 ounce just crushes them.

 

Best all around is the red eye shad. The Cordell spot has been good to and is dirt cheap. The Rippin Rap and Trap are hit or miss, highs are great otherwise skunk city. One bait I have had some luck with is the Glo Pro soft lipless. It is a little over a 1/2 ounce, but seems to run deeper than others.

Like many my favorite is 1/2oz. All I own are Red Eye Shad, Rat-L-Trap and Cordells. Colors are basically just sexy shad, craw and chrome. I'll use 1/4 in shallow water sometimes.
