TSparger Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 Does anyone know where I can get a butt cap with a line size indicator like what’s on the Johnny Morris Carbonlite 2.0 rods? Looked all over the internet and can’t find anything like this. Quote
spoonplugger1 Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 With the flat caps that are sold now days that are designed to have some kind of inset addition, I don't see why you couldn't buy some of the little sticky dots used on sale items and apply them there with any info you want, or use specific colors for different line sizes, or types. Some of the standard old plastic caps also have an indentation in the end, though a bit smaller in diameter you can figure out how to use. If you need something more durable and permanent you can punch out circles from lure tape. Sure would be easier at a glance, or in low light than something written, or etched. Quote
TSparger Posted March 29, 2020 Author Posted March 29, 2020 Not sure I understand how that would work like these Quote
spoonplugger1 Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 I'm sorry, I thought you might have been looking for options, since those butt caps are not available like many of the other components that are specific to production rods. You can't have fishing long not to have noticed that, and may have wanted some similar looking options, I didn't realize the little silver ring with the very small numbers was all important, if they really thought it was, there was a lot of room there to make the numbers larger. There is a difference to me between looking at a blown up picture, and what I can see from the distance of a rod laying on the deck, or in a rod locker. Quote
AmmoGuy Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 I’m actually in the opposite boat.... I’m trying to figure out if I can remove the factory butts from my Carbonlite rods and replace with something more comfortable. Im not a rod builder, so I’m trying to get a handle on the process before I try it. Quote
spoonplugger1 Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 I've never seen the end cap, if it's built to fit over a tenon (notch) on the Winn grip where any other style butt cap would fit, you just need to remove the end and install a new but cap. The end spins off I assume, you then can put whatever numbered ring you want on the end, maybe a standard buttcap like a comfortable EVA cap will slide right on where the ring goes. I'm sure they don't make it any harder than they had to. I picked EVA as the butt cap because that is what is under the Winn coating. Quote
