Mr.C in Texas Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 Hello all, I just bought my first spool of 15lb. Tatsu and it seems much stiffer and has more memory than the Sniper 14lb. I’m used to. I fished it for a couple hours and even tied my line to a pole and walked out until I emptied my reel and gave it a good long stretch. Is this normal. I could try line and lure conditioner but would I have to apply it the day before each time I fish? Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 28, 2020 Super User Posted March 28, 2020 Apply the KVD line conditioner about 12 -24 hours before you fish and after a few applications you use it less often. Tom PS, I use Tangle Free by Punisher Lures as needed when I am fishing. Don't know if it's still available. Quote
Mjmj Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 I use 17 lbs sniper and 12lbs. I know it's not a great comparison, but the difference is night and day. I use conditioner on the sniper. I have never used it on the tatsu. I like both, but rely on the tatsu for my lighter line applications. When I use conditioner on new line. I spray conditioner onto a sponge and run the line through it, while filling the spool. I do this with braid too. (Instead of line conditioner, I use fabric conditioner) it seems to last longer that way. Sorry to hear you are having problems. I love me some tatsu! Quote
Mr.C in Texas Posted March 28, 2020 Author Posted March 28, 2020 Thanks for the input. I thought the Tatsu would be an upgrade. Seems like everyone likes it except for the price. It acts like it still has memory from the factory spool. I had to set the brakes hard to avoid "poofing" in the spool and the line had large line coils the size of the factory spool. It does not feel soft to the touch like Sniper. Could I have a bad role? Maybe line conditioner will solve this over time? Quote
Super User FishTank Posted March 28, 2020 Super User Posted March 28, 2020 I have tried 12lb Sniper more than a couple of time and always found it to be good line but not as good as Tatsu. I have used Tatsu in 10lb and 12lb and Sniper in 12lb. The Tatsu line for me was softer, lasted twice as long and with Sniper I would get an occasional break off. I have had one setup that Tatsu on it for 4 years and Sniper might not make through a whole season. 11 minutes ago, Mr.C in Texas said: Thanks for the input. I thought the Tatsu would be an upgrade. I notice that it gets much softer when wet and the Sniper when exposed to water and sun, gets harder over time faster. Quote
Mr.C in Texas Posted March 28, 2020 Author Posted March 28, 2020 I came in the black box and I fished with it for half a day. Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted March 28, 2020 Super User Posted March 28, 2020 I'm a Sniper guy but have been wanting to try Tatsu. Anybody know where I can find the best deal? I'm assuming Amazon when it's on sale? Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 28, 2020 Super User Posted March 28, 2020 Are you using 15 lb Tatsu on a spinning reel? I think you ment setting the drag higher but you should be running the line between your finger for tension when spooling. Tom Quote
Mr.C in Texas Posted March 28, 2020 Author Posted March 28, 2020 I’m using the Shimano SLX XT and I always have tension on the line when spooling. This problem is still there after a half day of fishing. I would think the natural tension of running chatterbaits and spinnerbaits would help work in the line. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 29, 2020 Global Moderator Posted March 29, 2020 That's weird, I use 15lb Tatsu a ton and it's some of the smoothest, most memory free fluoro I've ever used. Maybe got a bad/damaged spool of line? Quote

I’m used to 15lb Tatsu has diameter of 0.33mm 14lb Sniper has diameter of 0.31mm I know that doesn't seem like much, but in FC lines it's enough to notice a difference....The thicker line will always feel stiffer than a thinner line....And much like rod ratings, line ratings can vary from brand to brand - You need to look at the diameter to compare apples to apples. 15lb Seaguar and 16lb Sunline FC lines are almost always have the same diameters FYI....Both are 0.33mm. Just to show how much it can vary brand to brand, Trilene 100% FC is 0.38mm in 15lb (which is thicker than 20lb Tatsu and Sniper). Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted March 29, 2020 Super User Posted March 29, 2020 When you spooled it up did the new line come off the top of the spool directly to the reel or did it go under the spool? Under would cause the problem your experiencing with coiling. Quote
