Super User scaleface Posted March 26, 2020 Super User Posted March 26, 2020 5 to 10 is perfect in my opinion . 4 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 26, 2020 Super User Posted March 26, 2020 5-10 is great...not enough to keep me from controlling my canoe but enough to put a ripple on the surface. 3 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 26, 2020 Global Moderator Posted March 26, 2020 I think you’re way over thinking this. 5-10 is hardly anything. When it gets close to the 20 range then I’ll worry about it. Mike 4 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted March 26, 2020 Super User Posted March 26, 2020 Go for it! .....for me, at this time of the year, I go regardless of wind, since I can always find a still area with the drop-off I lime to fish Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted March 26, 2020 Super User Posted March 26, 2020 Id kill for 5 to 10 this time of year where I live..I've been out half a dozen times this spring..twice was under 10 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 26, 2020 Super User Posted March 26, 2020 5 to 10 is perfect. Now all you need is a flat and some vegetation. 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted March 26, 2020 Super User Posted March 26, 2020 5-10 here tomorrow and I'll be out there. Oh and 65*. Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 26, 2020 Super User Posted March 26, 2020 As stated above, no problem. If there is a good ripple on the water surface time for the good ole spinnerbait. Since you brought up the topic we now expect you to add to it telling us what you caught, etc. Us guys who have to stay home and keep momma happy will appreciate your story. Quote
NJBasstard Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 I think 5-10mph is just just about perfect. Maybe it's all in my head, but there are times I feel like enough wind to put some chop on the water can really turn on the bite. Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 26, 2020 Super User Posted March 26, 2020 5-10 mph sustained wind isn't going to affect your casting or your boat handling, it's a light breeze that shouldn't affect boating in any way. The positive side with a light breeze is it does create small surface waves that tend to activate a predator like bass to be more aggressive. The downside would be rain making it uncomfortable to be out on the water. Tom 1 Quote
Smokinal Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 Spinnerbait and jerkbait bites are typically better in the wind Quote
Bigassbass Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 High 70's here tomorrow wind is light and 5-10 is great for fishing makes some waves the bass can't see your bait as well so that smack at it. I'm going fishing Saturday temp in the low 80's wow spring make it! Quote
Black Hawk Basser Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 5-10 is considered calm around here for this time of year. I'd actually prefer closer to 15 MPH. Moving baits work a heck of a lot better with some sustained wind. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted March 26, 2020 Super User Posted March 26, 2020 The only problem I have with 5 to 10 is it usually ends up being 10 to 20 . 1 3 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted March 26, 2020 Super User Posted March 26, 2020 If it's under 40 mph I go. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 28, 2020 Global Moderator Posted March 28, 2020 It's pretty rare I get to fish in wind that light, most days there's white caps on the lakes by 10am and 20-30 mph winds. Just a way of life in the midwest unfortunately. The fish don't mind, it's all about what you can tolerate and safely operate in. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted March 28, 2020 Super User Posted March 28, 2020 5-10 Hahahahaha! The forecast tomorrow is 25-40 mph winds and I'm debating on if that is too much. If I could get someone to go with me, it would be no problem to fish in. My only concern is unloading and loading the boat alone in those winds on the weekend. I don't like to be in the way of others so I try to avoid solo trips when I think the lake will be busy. Quote

Just ask the other fisherman with a nice unscratched/nondented truck and boat to back you in. Pretty high chance he'll be glad to give a fellow angler a hand. I back folks in/park the truck all the time and simply hand them their keys back at the dock. 1 Quote

Of course, these days they might be reluctant with the Coronavirus going around. 2 Quote
Super User Bird Posted March 28, 2020 Super User Posted March 28, 2020 I've posted on several threads regarding wind and cringe everytime. Lol Have a high tolerance for whatever life throws my way and not much irritates me.....Except fishing in the wind. Can't really put a finger on it and may need professional help " wind anonymous " don't know but will prematurely abort if wind picks up every time. Quote
RingWorm Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 The more it blows...the more I will reach for a spinnerbait. this time of year I am partial to Indiana blades. If your water has any stain at all throw a blue glimmer skirted 1/2 oz spinnerbait with an appropriately colored swimbait with the tip dyed chartreuse and a no.2 gold Colorado with a no.6 gold Indiana blade. With wind blowing in on a bank, throw it tight and roll it back to you slow. Thank me later! Quote
Luke Barnes Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 I look for 5-10 mph winds. Breaks up the surface and the top of the water columns visibility a bit. I've had the most success when it's got a little wind going. I feel so much more confident to power fish and rip reaction lures through the water with some wind. 1 Quote

Two words my friend ~ Twin Talons. Game Changer. Life is too short to worry about launching & recovering solo. It's only money, you can get more. But time . . . . A-Jay 2 Quote
