That current shouldn’t stunt them, a good many 8+ lb smallies come from pickwick in crazy current. Also the st Lawrence River is some of the strongest current I’ve ever heard of and it’s probably the best big smallmouth fishery in North America

This was the recurring reason I have heard from many anglers.  The Delaware is loaded with small fish and there is an abundance of food so I dont know why they are so small...

I don’t either, although maybe too many mouths to feed? My brother lives near the Delaware but down where ocean liners come in and drop of boats full of foreign cars haha

I dont really keep count.  Maybe it's just mental game I play with my self, but if I go out for a half day, my goal is 5 fish or 12 lbs.  If i go out for a whole day my goal is 20 lbs in 5 fish.  Some days i make the number goal , more often than not, I dont make the 20 lb goal but i come close.  I've probably caught 50 last week but that's fishing every day and somedays twice.

Do you weight all your fish?  A more interesting game is definitely to keep track of the weight of your bag, as you say.

No I dont. My 10 year old weighs more of of his fish than I do.  He keeps the scale at back of the boat.  Lol  If it looks like its in the 4.5 +  range I'll put it on the scale,if its convenient... most if the time I guess.

Been fishing for 50 years and the only time numbers mattered was back in the late 60's early 70's when I came home with a bucket of fish.

Remember my mom asking " why did you only bring home 5 fish when there is 6 of us in the family ? ".
