JediAmoeba Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 Last year I caught just shy of 700. Only 9 were over 2 pounds... 3 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted March 26, 2020 Super User Posted March 26, 2020 Last year I was going for numbers. It was a friendly competition with a friend in Florida. He had a head start on me FEB-APR is frozen here. I caught 600 fish, mostly Smallmouth, all dink’s. The amount of fish over 2 pounds I caught was historically low. My average in years past is 300-350 fish. 1 Quote

Where do you fish Lake Vostok? 2 of those over 2 pounds were in our local tournament. I tend not to fish there because it is really shallow and extremely weed choked but there are some bigguns in there... It's just hard to find bigger fish in Eastern Pa due to all the private places and pretty heavy fishing pressure. The Delaware river is great for smallmouth but they are all fairly stunted since it has a heavy current. Quote

That really narrows it down... so I'm going to guess it's probably around 6 and the million is just for bragging rights So last year I started counting early when I had a competition with my youngest son, but stopped counting fairly early. I would say I got something like 50, it was a difficult year for both quality or quantity. The year before my time on the water was limited due to going through chemo, but I definitely caught significantly more. The best I managed to land was a five pounder, but I caught several 3s and lost the bass of my life! I nearly landed two on the same crankbait (one popped off getting it onto the boat!). I don't know my numbers that year or my total numbers, but I have only been seriously fishing for a few years now so it's probably around 300. Quote

Well if I have to narrow it down all I can say is it's a heck of alot closer to 6 than a million. I did finally get out for the first time this year and moved the needle a whole 3 clicks closer to the million mark. 2 Quote
HenryPF Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 Just counting the last 15 years since this is the easiest, around 300 per year, add in all the other years I'm not really counting, about 5000? Note - I live on a retention pond and have many ponds within walking distance where I can catch 100 bass a day. Sizes usually range from 3 inch dinks to average 2-3lbs. I stop around September and just catfish cause I am lazy. Easy to go fishing when all you do is grab a rod and walk 60 feet off the deck. 1 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted March 27, 2020 Super User Posted March 27, 2020 I have bass fished for well over 20 years now. In that time I have been fortunate to catch many bass. There are times I focus on other hobbies and do not fish for bass much and other times I fish for bass very often. Have had +100 bass days and other days I do not catch as many. With that said any bass I catch is a nice one for me and bass fishing is a hobby I enjoy very much. Quote
kayaking_kev Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 I numbered my fish last year in my youtube videos and ended up with 515 on camera, but it probably was closer to 550 including the ones not on camera. They weren't all bass, but most of them were and I only left my County a few times. This was my 2nd year of fishing, the previous year was probably at least 250. Most of them came on a 6'0 Ugly Stik GX2 both years. I'm going to keep track this year also, but I won't be numbering each one in my videos, too time consuming. I've just been pulling a picture of each catch from video and numbering them. I'm at 9 so far this year and that's 9 more than last year at this time. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted March 28, 2020 Super User Posted March 28, 2020 My best guess would be around 500 last year. In my life? ? ??♂️??♂️ Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted March 28, 2020 Super User Posted March 28, 2020 Between 200 and 300 smallmouth and largemouth a year since 2006 most years, but some years were really down because of river conditions or bad weather on vacation. The bad years dragged the average down to 181 bass a year. Total largemouth since 2006 - 1635 Total smallmouth since 2006 907 Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted March 28, 2020 Super User Posted March 28, 2020 I'm happy to report my lifetime hasn't concluded yet... I'll report when I get there. oe 2 Quote
Pkfish49 Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 Thank you so much for giving me something to do during this time of isolation. I had the opportunity to look at my fishing pictures and participate here. I've only been back to freshwater fishing sine 2017 and don't primarily target Bass, so my numbers are low. Total count 26: Largemouth - 22 Smallmouth - 4 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 28, 2020 Global Moderator Posted March 28, 2020 I kept track one year of every black bass I caught and ended with 2,776. I'm attempting to keep track again this year and have started much slower than I did that year, currently at 211 on the year. I hit 1,000 on April 30th last time I kept track, so April better be a busy month. That time I kept track we had record heat for a couple months of the summer and I basically stopped bass fishing and switched to big catfish on the river at night so I might make up ground there. 3 Quote

The Bassman Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 I fish year round and probably catch anywhere from 20-30 to well over a hundred each month depending on the time of year. Fish under 12" don't count. One fact that tempers these numbers is that I exclusively fish small ponds and lakes. I would bet some of these fish know my name by now. Have doubtless caught many larger fish numerous times. Quote
TriStateBassin106 Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 In my life time so far I'd say around 150, I caught 48 this oast season which is pretty good considering I fish pressured waters. In NJ here we have all our county parks closed in my county so my next outing is TBD at this point but this I would like to catch at least 30 by June. Maybe 70 by the end of the year if I play my cards right. Quote
OCdockskipper Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 Fun question for me for two reasons. First, the amounts vary per year based on where I was in my life and how much I went fishing. Second, I have always been a person who keeps track of things, so I have some accurate data. When I first started bass fishing as a teen, we actually tagged the bass (I still have two of the old logs). Since 2014, I have been keeping a log of all of the bass caught on my home lake, which I fish about once a week (full day). So for those who like statistics, here goes. Teen years - approx 100/yr for 5 years = 500 College years - none for 4 years = 0 Married/Raising kids years - approx 25/yr for 25 years = 625 Teen daughter wants to go fishing years - approx 150/yr for 3 years = 450 Empty nester - 2014 thru 2019 = 7430 2020 so far - 309 So after starting bass fishing as a teen, I went 37 years averaging a little over 40 fish per year. The last six years, I have averaged 1238 fish per year, which is about the current pace I am on for 2020. That average breaks down to just over 23 bass per trip. That brings my lifetime total to 9314. It is amazing how time, resources and availability to a lake change how many bass you can catch in a year. For me, during the early years I had time & availability, but not much resources. Later, I had resources, but limited time and lake availability kept the numbers low. Now I have more time (not unlimited, I still work), resources and lake availability, so it is alot of fun. Putting those numbers together makes me realize how much I fished mentally following my teen years. I had bassmaster magazine and some TV shows, but would only get out on the water during vacations. I kind of feel spoiled being able to get out every week now. 1 Quote

Super User geo g Posted March 30, 2020 Super User Posted March 30, 2020 I fish at least 6 days a week, some from the bank and some days in my boat. The numbers would be too high for people outside south Florida to grasp. Right now I am averaging 30 bass a trip from a four hour boat trip, and 15 from the bank in an hour in the afternoon. Over the last 40 years the numbers would be too much to think about. I will leave it at that! 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 30, 2020 Super User Posted March 30, 2020 I've only kept records since 2015, so I'd say I fish two or three times a week, if possible, and average two or three bass per trip. This doesn't count winter months, when I go when I can. To answer your question: NOT ENOUGH. Quote

That current shouldn’t stunt them, a good many 8+ lb smallies come from pickwick in crazy current. Also the st Lawrence River is some of the strongest current I’ve ever heard of and it’s probably the best big smallmouth fishery in North America Quote
newyorktoiowa57 Posted March 31, 2020 Author Posted March 31, 2020 I still haven't caught a single bass this year. I just need one right now LMAO Quote
