Drop Shot - my go to finesse tactic

 

Senko - a classic

 

Paddle tail Keitech - one of my most confident lures, works year round

 

Flipping/finesse style jig - enough said

 

chatterbait/spinnerbait - go to reaction bait

 

Swim jig - more of a finesse reaction lure

 

I could do well in my area with these only

I choose these lures for their easy retrieve, easy hooksets, and they all flat out catch fish.

Crankbaits are prone to snag, walk-the-dog topwaters can be difficult to get the dog to walk, and frogs need a strong hookset without setting too quick.

4" Paddle tail Roboworm in crawfish/black/crawfish color (splitshot or texas rig)

     * I went through four bags in one day

     * I needed a subscription to those things

     * I just happened to work near their manufacturing facility and they would sell to me directly BITD

     * If you got bit, you could easily see the teeth marks in the plastic and see how far apart they were for 

        fish size

     * A little known or used bait and color and they were nothing short of amazing (no longer made)

1/4 or 3/8 oz jigging spoon in gold or silver

     * Fish finding MOFOs and I have caught bass up to 8.5 lbs on them

Bill Norman Deep Little N

     * Hard to find a small profile crankbait that will dive that deep - killer in mid-summer /midday

Roboworm Zipper (splitshot, weightless or texas rig)

     * Good all around bait

     * Good search bait

Rat-L-Trap

     * Great search bait

10" PowerWorm or Zoom Culprit (Black, black/blue, black/red)

     * For night fishing

Jig and craw.  I have a 3/8 ounce tied on most of the time.

 

Shallow running crankbait. I like to run just under the surface without a wake.

 

Lipless crankbait.  I like a 1/2 ounce, but I will use a 1/4 ounce if I'm fishing from the bank.

 

6" plastic worm.  I may fish this weightless, on a split shot rig, or t-rig depending where I'm fishing.

 

1/2 ounce chatterbait. 

 

Some kind of craw on a t-rig.

These spiders heads interest me.  Why so much love?

I have used them exclusively for 15+ years. Essentially they are a worm weight attached to a hook. They make a heavy wire and light wired versions in 2/0 and 3/0 hook. The Menace rigged on the slider spider heavy wire hook landed over 20 bass. I had to rerig it exiting the nose on the other side because it got so tore up. I actually saved the bait lol. 
 

They just work great but only go up to a 1/4 and weights aren’t exact which is a downside to some. I will say that bass don’t seem to throw the hook a lot either. I do like to use a snap because I fish vertical cover a lot and I feel the snap helps the bait fall vertically. Impossible to use a snap with a standard Texas rig with a worm weight. They definitely fit the KISS principal.

Thanks cgolf.   I think I have a couple packs of these I picked up on sale a while back.   I wasn’t sure how to use them.  I assumed they were good in weeds with the shape.  I was just not sure what the benefit was over a Texas rig.  Using a snap would make sense there.  I may figure out a way to try them this season.

Here is a better picture of the rigging. Had to go back to 2017 on twitter to find a good picture. I wouldn’t be a good rep for baits lol. 
 

The hook up rate is really good with tubes and baits like the menace and kalins 5” grub. Makes you wonder if the extra wide gap hooks are really needed as much.

Thanks!   I suppose it is almost like a pegged Texas rig that can’t slip up the line.  I always thought the hook was kind of a hybrid between an offset worm and EWG hook.   Do you swim it, work the bottom?
