Most fisherman consider a ten pound lmb a trophy bass. However I live in Ohio where 10 pounders are nearly impossible to come by. So my question is what Ohio largemouth bass size is considered a 10 pounder(or a trophy bass for this state)? Hope that makes sense.

13 lbs 2 oz is the Ohio state record, so you would have to decide at what weight a Trophy bass would be.

Kind of like Wisconsin Id say 7 or 8 I’ve got a few 6+ but never a 7 that will be a trophy in my boat.

Ya I was thinking an Ohio 7 is an absolute trophy. Definitely more rare that a Florida, Cali, or Texas ten

See if you can find some statistical sources, say using state/lake records and calculate a ratio using stats from states where 10 pounders are more common.

So, if Lake Fork in Texas has 10 twelve pounders caught each year, and your lake has about that many six pounders caught, your 10 pounder should weigh 5 pounds to be about the equivalent.

Oh! Take a look a Carl's videos. He fishes cold water up on the east coast, I think in the NJ area. He has morphed over to using larger swim baits and has had considerable luck catching much larger bass over the past several years. Nice guy, I always learn something from him.

In my opinion anything over 6#s is Hawg status!

Smallmouth in Ohio waters are very catchable at 5 & 6 lbs if your fishing Lake Erie. For largemouth I think 8lbs  would be more equal to the DD standard down south.

Considering my current PB is 4.7# and the MN state record is 8#15oz - I think anything over 5# would qualify here.

I’ve caught a lot of 4s and one 5 last year. I’ve been fishing my whole life and have never seems a 6 pound lmb in Ohio. I’ve seen a good amount of 6 pound smallies(my pb is 4.56) from Erie tho

I saw that but I feel like an avid bass angler the standards should be a little higher

Very fair. I’m very proud of my 5.42 pounder in Ohio but I wouldn’t say it’s a trophy

When you use the word "trophy", is your meaning "worthy of being mounted"? That would change things, as I had not taken it to be meant that way.  I simply took it to mean something you could justifiably brag about.       jj

Sorry yes I meant to be mounted. I should have said that. Also not a skin mount

I have one of those 10lb'ers and I was happy to catch it and have a replica made of the fish, but I was going to have a replica made of anything 7lbs or over.

Here in Iowa the record is a shade under 11 so I would consider anything above 7 a legit stud...only caught a few over the years

In-Fisherman divided the country into regions for trophy fish groupings and the OP lives in region 1 where LMB to qualify was 6 1/2 lbs/ 22" long.

I know a couple guys in Illinois that have mounted 6.5 pound LMs.  I can tell you that a good friend of mine has Illinois/Indiana tournaments since he was a young child (backboating with his dad) and he just caught his PB last summer at 6.5 pounds.  But I also know guys who have caught 8-9 pound bass in nearby lakes.  That has left me wondering when I will order a replica.  I have it in my head at about 7.5 pounds.  We shall see.
