While I love fishing smaller waters with my kayak I still miss having a bass boat. So I've recently been in the market for another used bass boat. Now, I don't know with all that is going on. The Governor of KY just had a press conference ordering all non-essential retail businesses to close by tomorrow at 8pm. That puts my job in jeopardy so that bass boat is on hold now. d**n Corona.

Anyways, why is red and maroon so prominent on bass boat color schemes? I'm picky and just don't like red on most vehicles so a red bass boat is out of the question.

Everything I liked and found within my price range has been red, ugh.

EDIT: No offense to anyone out there with a red boat, haha. I see some absolutely gorgeous boats in red, especially this Bullet I've got my eye on, just might have a red boat after all.

One of the several foxbody Mustangs years ago was beautiful and fast, but the "porno" red interior eventually made me sell it, haha. Toooo much red going on there. Unfortunately a lot of the Red Boats I see in my price range I could honestly get by with the exterior but most also have red carpet and seats.

Only morons buy maroon boats!

Serously manufacturers offer colors that are popular and sell, obviously maroon w/silver metal flakes with grey carpet and seats are a popular color combination.

That means you probably wouldn't like my boat or truck.  My boat is a red and silver Nitro Z20 and my truck is a red double cab Ford F250.

Not saying that at all bud, I'm sure it's a gorgeous combo. My Dad is a huge fan of red too and we used to tow a red Ranger with his Red Silverado SS.

I'm just saying I see soooo much more red/maroon colors on the used boats in my price range.

Red and white boats are everywhere around here it seems. Went out of my way to make sure I didn't get a red boat when I bought mine. Really like the color combo of mine.

Here's what I think. Red is generally perceived as a sexy and fast color. Just like the guy that buys a red Corvette. They want a car that looks sexy and looks fast. Sex sells and speed kills. This is why I think red is so stinking popular. Every one around my area has a bright red boat or bright red trucks. I'm a big fan of solid white on a boat and trucks

Great question.

I also wonder about your query when it comes to vehicles.  Seems the car manufacturers will pick out some colors for their vehicles for a specific year and you get to choose what color you want that is available. Sliver, white and black are the winners so far. But the colors will change each year to make the vehicles more salable and not look like older models.

As for bass boats, the manufacturers either will pick the color patterns themselves or hire an advertising firm to do some research to find the color combinations that will present the boats in the best light as possible. I mean a black and red bass boat hauling fanny down a lake for a photo shoot looks better than a yellow and pink bass boat doing the same thing.

Black and red denote power. Black and red show you that the guys in the boat mean business. Black and red means the guys are excellent bass fishermen and unless you get the newest black and red bass boat you will never catch another bass in your life. Black and red is speed.

Colors appeal to everyone in different ways. Usually advertisers see colors like this: Red is a bold color. Black is a stealth color. Silver is a speeding/fast color. Pink is a girly color.

Check out the background colors for car commercials and also the colors of the vehicles. You will note what the advertising execs think is the best combination to showcase their products which includes boats.

My beef is with black. When it gets really hot you can burn your self by touching the areas of a bass boat that are black. I mentioned this to the Tracker people at my last Bassmaster Classic in South Carolina a few years ago and they had no idea that black got that hot. Did they change anything? Yes they did. You can now get a totally black Tracker if you wish.

Just watch where you sit down. ?

One other observation. When you go grocery shopping look at the washing machine soap powders. Advertisers are masters of using colors to attract you to look at and consider their products. The soap power aisle is the most attractive aisle in the entire grocery store. For years I bought Contadina tomato paste with the lady on the label. Why? Because that is what my grandmother and mother used when they cooked and I had no idea of the actual product name until I was in my 40's and my wife asked me why I always got that brand. And it was easy to locate due to its color and that lady.

Now go out and get one of those red and black Rangers and have some fun.

Y’all ever heard the Jeff Foxworthy joke about why bass boats and beer cans are shiny?

No, what is it?

My previous boat was a dark red with glitter Stratos, it's like a rite of passage for bass fisherman ;)

For my current boat I went with another tried and true color combo in the bass fishing world (black/blue).

Back when I worked with a boat dealer, some version of red was the most popular bass boat color selected by guys that ordered new boats, as well as the best selling color for rigs already on the lot or in the showroom, and hence usually ordered by dealers.

I am with you white on white. My bass boat is tan my truck is white because that was the only color the boat came in 2001 but If I win the lottery I am getting a new white Power Wagon and white Vexus aluminum boat.

I love me some red on boats and trucks. However my ram is black and my boat is dark gray.  The truck was like 2k cheaper than any other and the best I just loved the color. Red stands out and as already stated looks sexy and fast.

Me and you think alike. Besides the ram. My next boat will be a white vexus. I got rid of my white /grey superduty a while back. Thinking that wasn't the best move now
