Go to Section 1, sub-section E, Part 5 for details. I would call or check websites of the relevant city, county, and state officials to be sure the location you want to fish is open for use. It was clarified tonight that hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreational activities are still allowed. That's the good news. The bad news is that the fishing around here isn't that good. But I'll give it another try tomorrow - at least I'll get some exercise. Back to the Lowcountry next week for some better fishing. Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted April 7, 2020 Super User Posted April 7, 2020 The lake I call my home lake is closed to all angling as are the rest of the public waters in my state. Strangely, two kayakers capsized on that lake yesterday and one drown. Very sad. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 7, 2020 Super User Posted April 7, 2020 There is a meeting to discus closing all Califorina inland waterways until June 1st. The debate centers around May 1st State wide trout season opening because anglers tend to occupy boats with 3 or more anglers. This comes as California just sent 500 ventilators to out of state users that need them. Looking at all the trending projections for COVID 19 projections California trending downward, closing recreational inland fishing State wide further makes little sense. Tom 1 Quote
redux Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 I wish they would leave all ramps open and just post a ranger/police to issue fines for boats that come in or try to leave with a pile of people. Quote
jbjordan Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 Many State and local parks and lakes are closed in Texas. Quote
GTN-NY Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 NYS just issued this https://www.syracuse.com/coronavirus/2020/04/coronavirus-ny-temporarily-suspends-use-of-all-its-boat-launches-for-recreational-use.html 1 Quote

California makes little sense, and they do it often 1 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 16, 2020 Super User Posted April 16, 2020 The trout anglers made enough noise to keep opening day at the High Sierra lakes open May 1st opening day. Bass are lowly species as are bass red neck anglers and the majority of lakes remain closed. Tom 1 Quote
ike8120 Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 The county, municipal and state parks are closed. The wildlife management areas are open. But I have a gut feeling if people don't do the social distancing they will be closing also. Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted April 16, 2020 Global Moderator Posted April 16, 2020 Yep all the lakes in the state of Michigan today. You can fish out of a row boat but not a boat with any type of motor. 2 1 Quote

That state make absolutely no sense, they only look at what is going on in NYC and deal the whole state the same verdict. 1 Quote

tander Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 My home lake, Ross Barnett, 10 minutes from ramp, had been closed for several weeks. Rumor is that the Gov. might be reconsidering opening it next week with restrictions. Quote
GTN-NY Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 I don’t think anyone would have any problem with having to have restrictions: you must be alone or with only people that reside at your residence and have proof of it 2 Quote

I feel like a few knuckleheads have ruined it for everyone else in the places that have closed public water. This is really unfortunate given that fishing is one of the few things we can very safely do these days. Here in MO the public water has stayed open so far, thank goodness, but I keep hearing stories about boneheads and I'm afraid that our state government will follow with a similar kneejerk reaction and ruin a good thing for 99% because of the stupidity of the 1%. Also, just a suggestion for those of you who are in states where public water has been shut down. Don't underestimate the power of a bunch of people raising a fuss to the governor, Dept. of Conservation or whichever government authority has jurisdiction over the decision. I work in a job that involves lots of state and federal advocacy in the healthcare field. If you're in a state where public waters have been closed and they should be open, you might be surprised at how much a coordinated email/phone call campaign can make a difference. 1 Quote
Hawkeye21 Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I saw that WI just extended their stay-at-home order until Memorial Day. I've had plans for a fishing trip to northern WI Memorial weekend and have my hotel booked yet. I live in Iowa and would be traveling 5 hours. I'm assuming I have to cancel my trip now with this extension? Quote

Ogandrews Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 Thank god Minnesota has all their lakes open still, although bass/pike/walleye/lake trout still doesn’t open until May 9th. They did issue an order for everyone to fish near their main residence though which I’m pretty mad about. For the last 5 years I have been in a opening day walleye and pike tournament on lake vermilion which is about 30 miles from the Canadian border. My dad and I would go up, stay at his cabin, and we won the last 4 years in a row. Really disappointed that the tournament is off this year, although we will probably go up anyway seeing as he can claim that house as his primary residence. The part that really sucks about this whole stay by your house fishing order is that I just bought and new boat, and I live in Rochester mn which is in the only county in the state without a natural lake. I guess I can still drive 45 mins and fish the Mississippi but this law really cuts down on the opportunities of where I can take it and fish (If I follow it that is). I know I shouldn’t be complaining as a lot of states are getting completely shut down, this is the one time that I have actually been happy with something that the governor of MN has done. Quote
