Sucks. 50 years old, no response from any application. Can't get

unemployment because I was 1099/self-employed. Wife a nurse, but

we still have 4 boys, a lot of expenses, etc. She can't carry us alone.

Tough times. We'll make it through. Hopefully politicians get heads out

of their ... nether regions and come up with a relief that helps all of us.

Hang in there man! As you say, we'll get through this

Picked up an all day side job today for this Saturday that will help . Trying to decide whether to do it all myself or get an out of work relative to help . Think I’m going to try and do it all myself.

Got another smaller side job that I’m planning  to do the next Saturday , good Lord willing .

Darren, my son is also 1099/self employed and part of the big check he has to cut every April goes to the state to match employment taxes that would have been taken out had he been an employee.  I believe it is for every single one of them, from SDI to UI, so that makes him eligible for unemployment.

This might just be a California thing, but i would double check if i were you.  I have a feeling you have may have been paying into it for years.

Based on what they're saying about the relief bill, you may be able to collect unemployment for 4 months

I own an A/V company, we can claim we fall under the essential category because installing a TV is installing a communications device.  If the authorities give me grief about that, then my C-7 license makes me a low voltage electrician, another "essential" business.  I work by myself, so no concern of being too close to people and I didn't have to worry about laying off any employees.  Last two weeks, business dropped about 80%, however I am starting to get calls from existing customers who are bored & want to be able to stream stuff at more locations in their homes.

A sad side note involves some of the gated communities here in So Cal.  Some HOA's have gotten a little power hungry and are dictating who they will allow through the gates, no matter the homeowners request.  That is a little problematic for those folks in the midst of a home remodel when the HOA decides they will not allow ANY contractors into the community unless it is an outright emergency.

If you're a homeowner with a mortgage and going through tough times, call your mortgage company. Most companies are offering mortgage deferment with no penalty and no negative credit reporting. Just call your mortgage company and ask for it. You might have to sit on hold for awhile but it's worth it.

My situation is that I am 100% paid by commission for what I sell. I have not lost my job , because we are considered “ essential “. But I haven’t sold near as much because some people are scared to buy anything right now. Had 2 potential customers tell me that yesterday. My wife was laid off right before the virus got here. She says the mortgage co. won’t help us because neither one of us lost our jobs because of the virus.

I hope she’s wrong. I’m going to call them anyway. We’re already almost one month behind.

Thanks. My brother texted me this last night. I'm researching.

Details scarce right now.

I've already been rejected by Virginia. Would have had to been classified

as an S-corp and been an employee thereof, paying those taxes.

As I said before, my son in law was laid off his job at the Airport in KC MO, due to working in close quarters with other guys. He makes pretty good money there. He took a job at a big Price Chopper grocery store for quite a bit less. Wiping off shelves and things, before they re stock. I'm glad I don't have a lazy son in law. He's got a kid to support, so when he got laid off at the airport, he applied at Price Chopper and started 2 days later. He's not too proud to do this work, and he's still making some steady money, untill his airport job calls him back. Sometimes, you have to bite the bullet, and do what you have to do. In our area, many stores are hiring for jobs like this now. They need workers.

Mike, I got a notice from my finance company to defer my truck payments for 90 or 120 days if I need to. I don't want to do this, if I can help it. I think the mortgage company will help you if need be. They have to do it. Too.many folks having a hard time now.

Just call them, they aren't asking any questions about your situation. Be prepared to sit on hold for an hour or more but they will definitely work with you.

Welp...barring drug test failure (not a chance), I'll be working

at Lowe's as a seasonal employee. It's a job, and will probably

be fun. Not gonna make the $$ we really need, but again, it's

a job in these trying times, so I'll take it gladly! :D

Thanks to everyone for the well-wishes, and Mike @N Florida Mike,

Washington State - stay at home order until 4/8 issued here.  All parks and fishing are closed.  My wife works for Starbucks in payroll, she has been working from home since early March.  I work for an aerospace company that supports Boeing, we are only open due to military work.  Skeleton crew.  We laid off 250 people this and last week.  That sucks.  There is a huge push for unemployment benefits here, the system crashes, etc.

It sucks not being able to fish.  We got a 4 man tournament in last weekend - 2 boats, 4 guys, always 6 feet apart.

Yeah we are getting a decent amount of calls, people are sitting at home and realizing animals live in their home. Only problem is they won’t stay the heck away from us!!! A coworker and I both tried to stay 6 feet away from customers and they kept getting too close over and over and over.

Everything is shut down.  I am assuming I can fish from my dock at my lakehouse, but could get fined.

I applaud everyone here who has tried to stay working, and have taken a job for less money. This is what we're all about here. Keep America strong??

You are right, my mistake.  Unemployment taxes are paid by the company, not the individual.

You (& my son) pay the SS, medicare & disability taxes that all employees pay.  I don't recall if they stick you with the companies portion of SS & medicare as well.
