I’m going fishing for spring break and idk what colors I should use for bass and perch mostly. I’ll be fishing in a reservoir up in Idaho. What type of lure should I use? Spinnerbaits? Texas rig?

To cover trout, perch and bass, I’d go with stuff on the lighter side. Inline spinners, 3” grubs on a ball head jig, some original Rapala floaters or countdowns and some casting spoons.

I’ve caught nice rainbows fishing pure bass gear with straight braid but for fishing all 3 of these species It is better to go with the stuff the trout and perch are more likely to eat. Also make sure you have the appropriate gear. I think a ML spinning rod should do it in this case. Have fun buddy!

here’s a rainbow I caught fishing a squarebill on straight braid. Trout can be caught on bass gear but it’s not ideal

I’m mostly going wanting to go for bass. Maybe some perch. Are bass going to be in shallow water? Or deep water? Are baitfish going to be active? Or slow?

A good bait to start with in cold water is a blue and silver lipless crankbait. If that doesnt work a coin toss may be as good a plan "B" as anything.

Mepps #2 black fury will do most if the water is not weedy or woody....other then that try a 2 inch grub on a jig ..white, chartruse or firetiger...

I've caught all of them on the same Ned rig on the same day before.

A dropshot would be a decent way to go. Using someone in the 3 - 4” range. Most likely I’m guessing you will be after smallmouth you there? If that’s the case get something that imitates a small baitfish. Work it slowly coming back in, almost like a Carolina rig. This will keep your bait up off the bottom, and all three species will eat that. If they are on beds you can shorten up the leader and pitch in and around beds. Just know if there is any wood or cover you run a greater risk breaking fish off like this.
