ITO_ZILLION Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 I am looking to get into some finesse flipping and pitching. What kind of rod specs should I be looking for...? Heavy power is pretty much standard for normal flipping and pitching. Do people drop down to a Medium Heavy for finesse flip and pitch...? How about Medium...? Medium light would be out of the question for sure. Fast or Medium Fast/Moderate Fast...? I am planning to use braid to a Fluoro leader for finesse pitch and flip so I am thinking I should be looking at rods with a Medium power with a Moderate Fast/Medium Fast action. What length would be ideal...? 7 foot and less sounds about right. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted March 17, 2020 Super User Posted March 17, 2020 I'm wondering if you are really flipping or just jig fishing. I havent seen anyone flip in a long time. I ask because it may make a difference in the length of rod you want. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted March 17, 2020 Super User Posted March 17, 2020 Flipping is usually defined as a No cast flipping a jig, normally 1/2 oz or heavier, with a 8 foot heavy rod with 50 to 80 lb braid. This is a close quarter technique. You are normally flipping into real heavy cover, hence the rod and line weight. Look on youtube , on how to flip for bass. bunz559 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 I have a Dobyn's Extreme HP 745 for lighter pitching. I don't do much flipping (never practiced it). But the 745 has a stout back bone and a really nice soft tip that allows comfortable pitching and accuracy. I usually run a Curado K with 16lb FC Sniper or a Bantum with 50lb braid to 14-16lb FC Sniper. Weights I pitch with on this rod range from 1/4 up to 1/2 ounce. Anything heavier and I move it up to a Dobyn's Extreme HP 805. The 746 may be a nice rod also if stepping up in weight. It is a pretty versatile rod in throwing bottom contact baits as well. I throw jigs, heavier texas rigs, and large 10+ inch worms. I've even thrown larger Keitechs on it. I only suggest this rod because it's what I have and like. If it didn't work for me, I would've sold it. Quote
