Just found out that the Illinois lawmakers increased the cost of trailers (under 3000 lbs) from $18.00 to $118.00.  Doing the math, that's a 555 percent increase!!!!  I appreciate that we need to pay for our roads and bridges and we've been woefully negligent in doing so BUT this is ridiculous!!!  I have two trailers (one for my 17 foot jon boat and another flat bed for my little bass raider) and just for trailer registration alone, this is going to set me back $236 dollars!!!! Words fail me (or words I can use here, anyway).

Fixed that for you

You keep that attitude up and they'll increase your fishing license to $100.00 They figure most trailers are owned by business and/or people with disposable income. They steal money wherever they can get it. They pulled $30M (completely drained) the FOID/CCW money and are currently being sued by the Illinois State Rifle Assoc. As more people leave the state, the tax burden increases for us too stupid or too scared to leave the state.

Is this a one time fee or yearly? Our trailer plates are a one time fee. The trailer for my 17.5’ G3 is $70 one time fee.

Don’t forget the extra $5.54 you’ll pay if you pay online for your two trailers like I did.

Minnesota - it was $68.50 for my trailer - lifetime license. This is for any 'utility' trailer (boat trailers are included) rated for under 3000 lbs.

Ahhh, the boat trailer or “trailer” revenue stream. In the great state of California we were told it was a one time fee as well. No more yearly registration fees. Well, so somewhere along the lines things changed to a $10 fee every 5 years to keep your permanent trailer registration current. BTW, the state didn’t notify you. When I found out about this discovered I was outta compliance since 2013. Go figure

Sorry my friends, I guess it’s part of the privilege of owning a luxury item..

Forgot about that but yes, there's that too.

Unrelated but not entirely:  At my local Secretary of States office, there are signs posted warning patrons about swearing.  At no other place will you see such warnings.  Perhaps the plethora of swearing should tell them something.

Last year the state doubled the gas tax and truck registration fees. Passenger car plate fee tripled and is still cheaper that the truck plates. Electric vehicle were increased by 8X because they realized they were missing out on fuel tax dollars.

Why bother going green if it costs more than everybody else pays?

This kind of stuff keeps happening in state after state.   What amazes me is that the people complain but keep electing the same winners into office

Well, trying to avoid politics but I didn't vote for our current governor.  Certainly won't vote for him next time around.

It's actually a 656% increase.  But hey, whatever right? lol

He also just closed all state DNR ran lakes and parks, so you can't even use your $118 trailer to tow your boat to the lake because they are closed.

Oh, yeah.  Math is not my strong suit.  I just know it's "way too much."

Second paragraph:  Oh, the irony!

In Virginia, the law says:

A trailer can be defined as a vehicle without motor power designed for carrying property or passengers wholly on its own structure and that is drawn by a motor vehicle, including tow dollies and converter gear.

Trailers can be registered annually, bi-annually or permanently. The trailer annual registration fee is based on the gross weight of the trailer:

0 to 1,500 Pounds    $70

1,501 to 4,000         $75

4001 and Over          $100

I had to register my boat trailer many years ago and no longer have to worry about registration fees. Also did the same with my other trailer that I use to haul furniture, Cub Cadet riding mower, lawn and garden supplies, mulch, etc.

I’m starting to see why so many people move to TN........ lakes are open and no cost for a trailer.
