So I’ve been bass fishing for 45 years and never had this happen before.

I broke a rod. Not only that , I broke 2 rods. I was not angry or careless.

The first was my 6.6 Bps finesse rod. Somewhere between my office and my first cast- have no idea how - the tip broke 3 inches or so from the end.

The second was a Rhino rod , that I have my favorite spinning reel on. It, of course , was made in China and has the word “ indestructible “ on it . Broke the tip of it off also fighting a fish when it hit the boat?.

I had never broke a rod, and broke 2 in one day!! Unbelievable.

Oh, I did catch 15 on a craw, speedworms , and super flukes. Don’t know if it was worth it though to have 2 rods down.

Ouch, yeah broken rods always hurt - and bad luck seems to come in pairs. I remember a few years back, I had 2 baitcast rods break in a week, and yeah it sucks so I feel for you.

On the bright side, you now have an excuse to upgrade!

Did you high stick the rods??  High-sticking is when the rod is raised to a vertical position while landing a fish, or when you are trying to free a snag

If you’ve never broken a rod, you were long overdue

No, it banged off the boat as I was fighting the fish somehow.

I’m at least looking at some. I’ve brought an old ugly stick out of retirement for now. I have about 5 other old rods that I’m trying to match one for my finesse-Setup. For me, I’m scratching the bottom of the barrel with what I have left. Was even thinking about putting my finesse spinning reel on a bait caster rod, but at medium- heavy it wouldn’t work for finesse anyway.

Sorry if I come off as offensive....don't mean to be...just sounds quite funny; reminds me of when my kids were young "I didn't do anything to it, Dad.  It just broke."

Haha - yeah I thought someone would pick up on that. I should have said “Not knowingly careless “?

Dang, that sucks Mike.

I know a firefighter that lives up that way who has a rod building and repair business. I'll get you his info if you want.

Hey thanks man They were fairly cheap ( Nothing like yours ) but it wouldn’t hurt to have another contact. I have a friend down your way in Osceola county that was fixing some of my old rods and reels and I’d let his kids swim in my pool. He doesn’t come up here much anymore though.

You catching anything or busy with the “ crisis “ ?

Oddly enough, my St Croix rods are actually mid-range especially when compared to some of the Legend rods my friends have, but I get it. I take all my reels in to Kel's for servicing, and had them re-tip a rod. The downside is they are the only authorized service center for rods, reels, and trolling motors around in Orlando that turn around times are quite long. I took a few classes through Mudhole to learn how to build rods, but really all I'm doing is repairing any damage to my rods and friends rods. I'd offer to re-tip the pair of rods as it takes no time and have everything that would be needed. It would be far easier for the guy I know that lives up there to do it rather because shipping the rods or driving them down here would cost more than the actually repair. He may not even charge you because he has everything since we got the same kits from Mudhole.

I have not been able to get out as my wife is in public safety, too, so its been a little crazy for the past 2 weeks for us. I'm hoping to get out to practice what @A-Jay is calling "social distancing" on Monday. lol

you now have a 6' 3" BPS finesse rod. 3" won't change things very much at all. measure your tip with a caliper. you will need to know size in 64th of an inch. drill gauge works well here. academy sports/walmart should have fuji tips/kit(with adhesive) to fix you up.

alternate fix:  get an old rod, take tip off it. put a big paper clip thru tip or use pliers. you can take a lighter or a tea light candle, rotate tip over flame about5 second intervals. you shouldn't use epoxy 'cause it is a pain to do repairs down the road. hot melt glue or arrow ferrule cement will work well.

What Woody said is spot on. Some of the Academy kits have multiple sizes, which makes measuring less of an issue. Only difference from the store kits and a rod builder like Mudhole is the rod builder kits come with much more of a size arrangement with multiples in each size and an alcohol burner for a cleaner burn than a lighter. Just don’t get too close with the lighter. Soot washes off with a little soap and water if the lighter isn’t burning clean. Easy fix. ?
