It's time to practice your hookset on some springtime pigs!  Who's going kayak fishing this weekend?

Take a look at this kayak!

Seriously? Almost $5,000 for a kayak? For money like that it at least should be equipped with an electric motor, a battery. and a trailer to move a 150 pound boat. And, you still have to buy electronics.

Nice boat for sure but for that money I think i would rig up a different boat with motors and electronics and still be ahead of the game.  I have a wilderness systems ATAK that I am thinking of motorizing for river runs and long lake runs.  Beauty is i could still paddle mine, you aren't paddling a pro angler anywhere, at least not on purpose anyways.

Next week I will be out many times...

I'm sure it's nice but jeesh, you could easily spend 7 or 8 grand by the time it's all said and done rigging that thing up.

I went out today but fished from the bank and left the kayak in the truck.  We had40-45 degree weather here in Indy but the wind gusts were brutal, around 30mph.  There were white caps on the lake I go to.  It's supposed to snow tomorrow.  I can't wait for nice weather.  Last year it didn't show up until the middle of May.

I did catch 4 in about 2 hours.  Not bad for just messing around.

I'm hoping to hit the lake tomorrow! It rained all day here today with temps in the mid-upper 30's.

Of course it was nice and low 60's yesterday while I was stuck at work.

I’ve been on my kayak for almost a week while vacationing on Cape Cod. I have at least one more day.

Water temps are in the mid 40’s. It’s been very windy, but I’ve caught some quality SMB & LMB.

Hobie needs to figure out their price points because that much for a yak is just ridiculous without any of the fishing essentials.

As long as people keep paying it, they already have it figured out

They are doing just fine.  I am not a hobie fan because I don't like the pedal motion they use but they were the first to really popularize pedal kayaks and have a cult like following.  Until their sales drop I would say they are doing just fine with their price point.  Oh and they do have a good price point kayak as well, the compass i believe which is in the 2k range and in the ballpark of higher end fishing paddle kayaks.

I suppose - but I see a lot of kayaks and very few are Hobies.

they aren't trying to be the top seller of kayaks but if you ask jsut about anyone what boat they want to get next, you will hear a lot of hobie answers.  Their price point keeps them elite but at the same time attainable.

Like i said earlier though, if i was gonna spend that much money I am getting a motor on a good paddling boat so I can have the best of both worlds.

The temperatures are still a little too cold up here. Most of our water has finally thawed and I am hoping that I will hit the water next weekend if it's not too cold!

Nice kayak -- I am buying myself a Bonafide this year, but don't expect to use it until May

Ponkapog in Canton is my 'home' pond.  I fish Plymouth and Cape Cod as much as I can.  There's great smallmouth fishing down there.

Sure many people would like one. I'd like a Ferrari too but the price point keeps me in my Toyota truck (rather have the truck really). Toyota's net income blows away Ferrari, so if Hobie wants to be elite and make less money like them, they've made the right choice.

I see no way to justify a 5k price tag for that kayak. What's the drive worth, a thousand or so? The seat maybe $400. The rest is plastic. They must charge by the pound.

In case you didn't know, the cost of an item isn't just materials.  And yes, toyota makes more money but they have nothing even remotely close to the performance or prestige of a ferrari.  There are also not too many toyotas that go up in value but there are a lot of ferraris that do....

I am not sure on the numbers for sales but i would also bet they are near the top in kayak sales as well as they also have a very large recreational paddle division as well.

This is not totally true. Toyota has been on ferrari's tail (along with Nissan and Mazda) in almost every aspect of motor racing. Ex. Le Mans. Toyota also makes some pretty serious production cars- Lexus LFA is a 300,000$ super car. Japanese Supras are no joke either. Pretty sure they made some 11 or 12 second production cars. Those are close to Ferrari times. Sorry, that was off topic.

On topic. Hobie's, I think maybe a little over priced. They are nice though. Do I dream about owning one... No. A Ferrari on the other hand?

I'm finally rigging up a kayak I've had sitting for around 2 years. Excited to get out on the water as I haven't been doing much fishing the past year.

You can get all of that cheaper.

I probably will go kayak fishing some time in the next week. But I'll do it a lot cheaper. Heck, I'd buy a pretty nice used jon boat, trolling motor and trailer for that dough. Since I already have two kayaks.
