Anyone have experience with Daiwa Procyon LT.
I’m going to buy one setup for our close friend for house warming gift since they are going to move into Canyon Lake per our suggestion. I’m not sure how much he know about bass fishing or how much he willing to learn so I’m gonna buy him just a  nice, budget friendly type setup. I’m going to buy 2500 size reel since he can use this setup for both bass and catfish.
I’m looking at either Daiwa Procyon LT or Daiwa Exceler LT. Now the Procyon use Zaion Frame and Aluminum Digigear which the same as Tatula but use Spool system just like cheaper models like exceler which use regular carbon frame and zinc gear. The weight is the one I question about, Tatula 2500 size is 6.2oz while Procyon and Exceler about 7.1oz. How come? Daiwa set up the price as Procyon is only 30 bucks cheaper than Tatula but 80 bucks more compare to Exceler. Anyone have any opinion of these 3 reels.

Your a great friend if you're going to buy him a tatula combo.

Is your friend a serious fisherman? The average person couldn't tell the difference between a $50 combo or $300 combo.

If he loves fishing then get him the tatula or procyon. If he's not that serious, then a exceler or some lesser should do fine.

I have two excelers and they are decent reels. I have two tatulas and of course they are way better. Personally I think the procyon is kind of ugly.

I don’t know much about either reel. If it was me, I would get the one that if he really gets into it won’t crap out the first season.

The price is not an issue but just like you said, I don’t want Tatula to just sit in his garage unused. He said he wanna fish with me sometime but I doubt if he gonna get serious about bass fishing. I planed to buy Exceler and give him my Ark Invoker, but after checked Procyon with Zaion body and Aluminum Digigear I like this better. I’m just curious why Procyon is a lot heavier than Tatula 7.1oz vs 6.2oz. Maybe Procyon spool is a lot heavier than Tatula spool.
Too bad I sold my Legalis otherwise I can weight the spool compare to Tatula. Is it possible that you can weight the spool of both exceler and Tatula?

No, no Fuego, I don’t wanna mess with Magseal. I know for sure I’m gonna be the one to service the reels and I don’t think we need Magseal for just regular bass fishing. I was gonna give him Stradic ci4 (2500) which match the Invoker but my wife say the reel looks too used lol.

I think Procyon is better since he might do catfish more, his and my wife always get together for a glass of wine either at the park or on boat, so we can join them and not get bored, ?.
