BassSam5 Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 I am looking to add to my arsenal and I’m trying to keep my setups around this price range. I would like to upgrade and add to my casting and spinning setups. Quote

Super User jbsoonerfan Posted March 9, 2020 Super User Posted March 9, 2020 There are literally hundreds of different combinations you could go with. You will get a ton of different opinions. My suggestion is to use the search function and you could literally read for hours upon hours of content over this exact same topic. 1 Quote
swhit140 Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 I guess your gonna have hundreds of different suggestions on this one. This would be a never ending conversation between everyone. You don't have to spend $300 for a nice combo/setup in my opinion. I feel that most of my rods/reel combo setups between $120-$200. I'd say figure out which brand rods/reels you are planning to use and go from there. I have all Daiwa reels so that is what I'm rolling with. I'd say find a rod brand that you really like that has good variety of choices in their lineup that will fit you planned techniques and match them up with the reels you like. Everyone is going to have a different opinion/suggestion for specific brands they like/prefer. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 9, 2020 Super User Posted March 9, 2020 Casting: Fuego CT, Helios SX or TCS, Lew's Tournament MG or MP, Supreme XT. Tatula CT if you don't mind the T-Wing. SX normally sells for $229.99, but I bought mine (new) for a lot less. Just found a LH 7.3:1 for $146.53. Spinning: BG, Fuego or for less Revros LT. Brother-in-law has been using an older Revros for at least 3 years without a problem. He lives in Florida and fishes a lot more than I do. Casting : Ark Tharp or Invoker Pro, Tatula, Genesis II, Fury or Sierra, HMG. For less Lightning, Aird X, Ark Viper. Spinning: Same You can find some really good deals on quality rods and reels if you don't mind buying used. Also keep an eye open for closeouts. Good luck Let us know what you decide on. Quote
Hower08 Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 Just bought an ARK lancer pro for punching. $99 rod I like it better than my rods over $150 haven't had it on water yet but messing in the yard with it with my eyes closed I could feel it hit everything on the way back in . Now I do have it paired with a curado k which is close to $200 itself but i also own a pile of the $99 Lew's speed spools with no issues and years of abuse. I also know guys that fish the $99 13 fishing rods and love them as well Quote
bwjay Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 You need to identify which techniques you're trying to cover before you go buying anything. Otherwise get a 7' MHF casting rod or a 6'6" MXF spinning rod. They are the most general power and taper combos for each one. Quote
Deeare Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Lots of good feedback. Whatever you want to buy wait for a sale. Never pay retail!!! 1 Quote

evo2s197 Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 These two are a good budget option, full carbon no fiberglass, these have been out for a few months. Quote
Randy Price Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 For spinning I'd recommend a St. Croix Mojo Bass (power/length your preference) with a 2500 Shimano Sahara or a same size Diawa Tatula. Quote
Ogandrews Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 Rods- dobyns Sierra, shimano curado/slx, st croix mojo bass. Also look at the 2018 g loomis e6x, I have seen some for around 180 lately and that is an insanely nice rod for the money. 90% of my rod arsenal is made up of these 4 lines of rods reels- spinning get a shimano nasci or ultegra depending on how much you want to spend. For a casting reel just get a curado k it will do everything and you’ll never be disappointed with it. Other good options are the slx dc and the other slx models depending on your price range. Quote
DomQ Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 Bass pro has these combos I saw last time I was there, price is great, they double as a lighter to!! I found it at the front beside the lady on cash. I'd recommend the fuego rod and reel or slx xt reel and slx rod Quote
