When I got started fishing I was always a Loomis fan. I also have liked St Croix. Lately I have favored Kistler rods on Northfork Composite blanks the new Gary Loomis blanks.

I have a couple megabass(destroyer,Levante), a few Loomis (imx, glx, nrx), a few kistlers, a few lamiglas, a few sage, a Winston, a t&t, a few nfc, a couple st croix and probably a few that I’ve forgotten. If I like the rod, I buy it with no consideration of the brand. It’s all function not fashion.

St. Croix and Loomis for me, with some Dobyns thrown in the mix.

I was a diehard St. Croix fanboy until a few years ago when I bought a few Loomis IMX pros for jigs and texas rigs. I since sold those to upgrade to NRX's and now it's all over.....

I still use all three brands but for bottom contact baits there isn't anything that can compare to an NRX.

BPS and Daiwa for casting moving baits.

St. Croix and Daiwa for bottom contact baits.

I have rods from G.Loomis, St. Croix, Abu Garcia, 13 Fishing, Shimano, Fenwick, and Quantum.  If I had to pick one brand over all, I would say St. Croix but G. Loomis is a close second.  Loomis does make my two favorite rods to use though> 783GLX and 853NRX.  I may change my mind to G. Loomis in the future.  We will see.

I own more Megabass rods then anything else but if I had to pick one brand to use exclusively it would have to be Loomis, just on the strength of the Magbass and Spinjig lines.

I pretty much have to buy all of my rods sight unseen so while I am trying to branch out a little bit, it’s hard to take the plunge with a new manufacturer.

I used to be more brand loyal and stuck to St Croix but there are so many good rods out there now that my current setups include dobyns, st croix, kistler, duckett, shimano and one Abu Garcia.  Lately the dobyns and the shimano are the rods of choice though depending on the situation.

love all these brands!

Megabass- for build quality and taper

Daiwa - sensitive and light

Shimano - build quality and value

G. Loomis - sensitivity

I'm 100% St. Croix.  I visit the factory one to two times a year and like the idea of supporting local American craftsman.

I was devoted to St. Croix, I like to keep the same brand for my rods so the actions are known to me.  Different brands act different.
But.........now I'm slowly converting to MegaBass.

Which line of st croix and what models? Which Megabass models? How do they compare in regards to power and taper?

I started with Mojo Bass up to Avid and AvidX rods.

MegaBass wise I've had Levante and Orochi XX's.  Comparison's are kind of difficult because the Orochi's have so many variations within the line.   Plus it's comparing a $300 rod to a $220 rod.  I would say that the comparable rods, Orochi vs Avid's is the Orochi's are a bit more sensitive.  It's been awhile since I've used a St. Croix so I don't feel I can compare them rod to rod anymore.  Power wise I feel the Orochi's have a bit more backbone but like I said, the MB's have so many variations within the line.  The Braillist has more power than the Avid MH/Fast but the Diablo Spec R has a little less.

St Croix, Daiwa, Shimano, G Loomis, Megabass, Daiwa. All top of the top. I don't personally believe in brand loyalty as my preferences may not all be satisfied by one company. However, I do appreciate someone who supports a company and believes so much in the product and the loyalty to support.

Perusing this thread, I find the hierarchy of brand loyalty a little perplexing, if not downright mystifying.

Oh well, this might be a good time to fetch some strawberries and heavy cream

Well there's that.

I spend for rods but is my skin so callused that it becomes so difficult to differentiate between manufacturers after around the $200 mark, believe so.

Like your honesty. Maybe that's why I retreated from this thread  ☺️

All G Loomis with a few exceptions. 1 dobyns 7' Medium casting Champion (great balanced rod for light casting uses), 1-Daiwa 6'6" Medium Spinning (Great balanced, light weight, and super sensitive) , 1-St Croix 6'6" ML Walleye Legend (great taper, sensitive)

For me G Loomis MBR and JWR just have the best over all tapers for multiple uses.

They all just feel right in my hand.

I love my powell rods.  I love my 1 dobyns rod.  But honestly, I think I have the most admiration and respect for Daiwa I really enjoy my daiwa rods.  The og tatulas, and the new ones as well as the xt I got for my son, Blake.  Heck I still have some light and tough rods that I use for camping, striper fishing and what not, that are still going strong. I've just never bought a bad product from them.  Maybe it's just because I feel like my dollar stretches further with them and the product is GREAT. And I have never had a problem selling a daiwa rod. The go quick and for the most part in get a good chunk of my money back.  please.dont get me wrong, I'm not super brand loyal, I tend to go where I get the best bang for my buck or to fill a specific need.  I have powells, daiwas, dobyns, ducket, shimano, and one three, and just feel that daiwa is putting out a great rod.  I like the tatula more than I do my OG Endurance rods.

With that said, If the rod fairy would like to deliver a couple of STEEZE RODS to my house tonight, I wouldnt get mad. I'd like to see what the fuss is about ??

I fish Fenwick ARK  Denali W/M quantum and gander MTN brand rods. I fish whatever feels right for the application I need it for. If it feels right in the hand and meets all my requirements I don't care what it says on it

St Croix, overall....

The legend x is a highly under appreciated  series. For general “high end” duty, I like my legend x’s more than my nrx’s. They just feel better and they’re plenty sensitive enough.

And I’m also of the opinion that certain mojo bass models (specifically the 68mxf and the 71mhf) are about the best you’re gonna do under $150...they’re STILL my go to reaction bait roads.

If I really need to feel everything within a 10 foot radius of my senko or jig, I’ll still use an nrx, though. They aren’t my favorite rods anymore but they’ll probably always have a place in my stable.

No brands are paying me to fish their products, so I buy whatever I find the best deal on. I typically have to really like a rod to buy multiple within a certain line.
