I have a little transom mount any trolling motor mechanics know if I can loosen the screw on the head and rotate the head of the trolling motor backwards. Its a newer Motorguide I think with the handle you twist to change speeds. Or do I need to buy a box mount that I can mount like a transom mount. Or do they make one. :-/

Yes, you can turn the head around 180 degrees. You can mount a block of wood on the front of your boat to clamp the motor to or you can purchase a bracket made especially for jon boats that slips in the boat front carry handle. There is also a ready made block of wood with adjustable bracket that you can use.

A cheaper option is to just use a filler piece of wood inside the front rail that is a thick as the rail and just clamp your motor to the boat front. It will be at an angle but your bracket will adjust to that angle.

Bass Pro Shops has a couple of the brackets on page 455 of the 2009 catalog.

I would advise against buying the plastic bracket from BPS.  I bought one and the used it on the front of my 14ft jon boat.  When I turned my trolling motor (36 LB thrust) past the 2nd speed setting the trolling motor shot out of the water.  In my opinion, the plastic is not sturdy enough.  I bolted a 2 ½ x 2 ½ steel tube to the front of my boat.  Works great!

If you want to know where the plastic bracket is now, I clamped my portable navigation light to it.  Easy to take on and off the boat.
