Is it normal to have a 3/8 oz lure fall pretty fast with the spool tension knob locked all the way down haha

I wouldn’t think so. Did you loosen your drag all the way for the off season. If so tighten it back up.

If you’ve had the cap off you may have lost spacers. If the cap was too tight for too long the spacer may be dimpled. You can flip it over to get some more life out of it.

It's a lews hypermag the spacers are enclosed inside the little clicker plate thingamajig

Might also want to make sure your cap is riding on the threads properly and tightening all the way down. Ive seen those get cross threaded quite a bit.

Everything is there. No parts missing. I've owned several lews before and never had the spool tension knob locked down before. All lews I've owned before usually the spool tension is actually backed out a bit before the lure starts to fall. But all these hypermags I have it has to be locked down and even then it's still falling

If you need a spacer by any chance here is an idea.  I lost a couple of spacers a few years ago and had a tiny piece of gas stove gasket material laying around   so I just cut little round pieces to fit in the cast control cap and it lasted for ever.  Ace Hardware sells the stuff.

Check the spacer on the palm side under the bearing.

Lews contacted me and left me a voicemail. I have to call them back on my lunch break but the service tech said it was line pinching. Dont know how that's affecting anything and if it is kinda strange its affecting 5 hypermags and 3 tournament pros lol

I had one of these on lone from I a guy that wanted it cleaned and serviced, even though it was new.  I pretty much had this reel for most of last season.  I had several things I noticed with this reel that bothered me and this oddly was not one of them.

One thing I do remember that I thought was weird, there is a cap (sort of) on the spool shaft, break side.  If that comes off or is worn down, then there will be play side to side and no tension between the spool and the cast control.   See pic below from TT.

I picked up a couple Curado 70's a few years ago that had the same problem. I contacted Shimano and was told they had a run of thin spacers and sent me new spacers. Installed and they worked properly.

Are they like the newer Daiwa’s where the instruction is to just remove side to side movement?

That's how I always have done my older Daiwa reels as well. Even my old TD-Z's.

I figured that Daiwa just got tired of people locking down the spool and then complaining that they weren't getting good distance and so decided to hype a new marketing feature the "No Adjust Spool Tension Knob".

I own 3 Hypermags and all of them share this flaw. Can't get VM or email response from Lews.

I always leave my spools with a slight side to side play. I just use the brakes and my thumb. I set all my reels like this. Never really used the spool tension knob much.

Just get them to send another spacer or shim it out a bit.
