I need a recommendation on what pound FC line I should go with. I want this line to be on my all-around casting rod. With this set up I will throw mostly baits that are 3/8 to 1/2 oz in weight that primarily would be spinner baits, chatterbaits, 6-10 inch plastic worms, jigs and such. I'm a big fan of Sunline Sniper so I am probably going with that. 15-20 pound? Initially I was going to go with the 16 but with the fact I will throw jigs on it I wondered if I should bump it up to 18 or 20. But when I think about that I think that is probably too much to throw trick worms on. Opinion on which I should go with?

Unless you're really fishing some nasty thick stuff, you should be good with 12#or 14#. A lot of people will laugh this off but if you're going to be fishing all those other baits on that reel too, 14# is probably the most versatile. I'd personally go with 12# even for jigs...but I dont have thick cover around here so that explains it. 12# is plenty strong for setting a hook and if you're breaking off your knots may be weak or you're just setting the hook way harder than you need to be or the drag is too tight. If you're doubting yourself, try 40lb braid and tie on a fluoro leader. I know it can get expensive but only you know your preferences and the cover you'll be fishing. Experiment with a fluoro leader ranging everywhere from 20 to 14. Good luck, you'll get lots of good advice on here.

Well, take this for what it's worth because my experience is limited. I have been a braid only guy for a while now. Last year I went back to mono on a couple reels and it was okay. I had tried fluoro once in the past and didn't care for it so this year it was back to braid. That is until I watched an episode of MLF all access and one of them was talking about using Sunline Sniper to throw his moving baits on (chatterbait, spinnerbait, cranks, etc.) Well me being the one to be easily swayed I decided I would give it a shot. After some research I decided on 14 lb Sniper and went all in and bought a 1,200 bulk spool and I put it on 5 reels. I have only been out twice since the switch but so far I am happy with the results. Time will tell, but so far so good.

Sunline is my preferred Flouro but have yet to exceed 12# but only for casting reels.

I won't let Flouro get anywhere near a spinning reel except the last 8 feet.

I used 10 and 12 lb for a few years without any issues. If I had to choose, it would be 12 lb, 14 if I was fishing more cover.

BTW, Sunline Shooter is working really well on my 2500 size spinning reel, stuff has virtually no memory.

I figured the fact that I'd be using jigs would make it necessary for me to use something more stout like 16 or 18 or something. Is that not the case? Going to try jigs for the first time this year and I'm not sure what to use.

I don't use FC but Yo-Zuri hybrid - in 12# for my jigging.

Unless you're swimming jigs through heavy cover, 12#-14# should be plenty.

16-18 pound sniper is about the same diameter as 12 pound yozuri

And testing by the IFGA shows that YZH 10# actually breaks at about 16.5#, 20# at 26# - so the YZH is actually higher rated than they lable it...and I switched to YZH over FC because it's more managable.

I use both.

the op asked what diameter or pound test sunline sniper to use.

12 pound sniper handles differently than 12 pound yozuri.

I would go with 16# test, been using it for years with no problems. Sniper 16# is actually smaller diameter than most 14# lines.

*** are my go to for most cases.

Good info, thanks.

I've steered away from FC myself but would like to put it back on a few combos this season and try it again.

I think I'll go with 14lb.

I think you will like it, but I do use KVD L&L so maybe that helps. I went out today and it is the first time I had a problem. Threw a 110 straight into the windy and it got a little wonky on my and I got a backlash. Pulled it out no problem and it was fine. Threw a SPRO Lil John MD a lot today and never had an issue with it.

Yeah I use KVD conditioner on all my non braid setups anyway. Have you ever used InvisX? If so how would you compare it to the Sunline?

I sure haven't, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it after reading all the reviews about it. My buddy likes Red Label and I am sure the InvisX is a lot better.

I have an all-around casting setup and use 16 pound Sniper for jigs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits etc. Works really well
