I look at the line diameter more than the pound test. Sniper is a small dameter line compared to most others. It has great knot strength. it is also very durable for its size and has limited stretch. The draw back is the cost. 18 lb sniper is .0138 inches in diameter. 12 lb berkley fluorocarbon is .013 12 pound yozuri hybrid is .013 12 pound berkley big game is .014 14 lb sniper is .012 inches in diameter 10lb berkley 100% fluorocarbon is .012 10lb yozuri hybrid is .012 10lb berkley big game is .012 A lot of people overlook the diameter of some lines. Interesting. I am going to try jig fishing for the first time this year and I had always envisioned pitching to cover when using a jig. When you talk about casting a jig are you talking about casting a swim jig or are you talking about just casting out a regular jig and bouncing it back to the boat? Guess I never really envisioned using a jig as such, always assumed it was more of a "at a specific target" kind of presentation. Am I wrong? Quote

Cating to me is swim jigs and dragging football jigs along the bottom. . All other jigs are usually thrown into cover with heavier line. Speaking of dragging football jigs, most of our waters have zebra mussels. Sniper seems to hold up to that abuse a little better than most other lines. A couple years ago I tried berkley vanish around the mussels. It instantly became apparent why it was called vanish. It does not take long for your baits and any fish you hook to vanish with that line. 1 Quote

So if you say 14 for casting and 18 for pitching to targets if I wanted a line to do both applications would you say 16 is the way to go and split the difference? While I'm at it I seem to remember you too are known to throw a Zoom Ol Monster around. What would you throw that on? Quote

I throw the ol monster around weed beds and riprap in summer. usually use 14 pound for that. I don't usually throw big worms around heavy wood. they tend to wrap around the cover. If I am throwing soft plastics in cover it is usually a more compact bait, like a creature or craw. 16 would be a good in between line for both. it is still smaller in diameter than most 12 pound lines and very strong. Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 5, 2020 Super User Posted March 5, 2020 When I'm pitching soft plastics next to or into cover I like Seaguar Abrazx. 17 or 17 or 20. It works ok for me, I do squirt some KVD line conditioner on it from time to time. Be mindful that the KVD line conditioner is a water based product. Early Spring, air temps in the 40's I find that Reel Magic works better for me. That is a silicone based product. 1 Quote
KP Duty Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 Pline tactical. I still have several spools from the BOGO sale tackle warehouse had a couple years ago. Going to order some hi-viz fuoros to try out....looking at sunline sniper BMS (the pink/orange) and Applaud crystal fluoro in crawfish blue Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted March 5, 2020 Super User Posted March 5, 2020 Seaguar Red label. All spinning is braid to leader. Tried the higher end fluorocarbons and didn't see the performance gain to justify the cost difference. Quote

I like it, but I don't feel like it accounts for enough fish on the hook to make up for its cost versus the Yo-Zuri copolymer that I have spooled on everything else. You think a copolymer is better? I’ve tried it on Baitcasters but didn’t like it. The Sniper FC I love on baitcasters. Is a copolymer or FC much better? I feel like how well floro did on my baitcasters would be good on my spinning . waymont Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 I’m in the minority. When I use straight fluorocarbon I only use 12lb Seaguar Red Label on casting setups, never have issues . Quote

My fluoro rig is for jigs, weighted plastics – bottom contact stuff. The other two I regularly use are for moving/reaction type lures that I'd more than likely want to keep up in the water column – crankbaits and chatterbaits and whatnot, so I don't need the abrasion resistance and I don't need the sinking. I could just as easily use braid to leader, but I really hate braid. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 7, 2020 Global Moderator Posted March 7, 2020 Tatsu, Flippin Fluoro, AbrasX, and InvisX. 2 Quote
Toeshots Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Tatsu 15 & 20 LB on baitcasters for plastics and jigs. I have so much confidence in this line that I’m hesitant to veer too much from it. That being said, I usually only buy it when it’s on sale. Tried some 8 LB straight on a spinning reel but I felt it was a bit too springy even with KVD L&L. Switched to 30lb braid w/the 8 LB as a leader and haven’t looked back. Bottom line - Tatsu is awesome. There are likely cheaper options out there that are also very good, but Tatsu just flat-out works. Quote
RichF Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 I'm in the "buy what's on sale" camp. The prices of most fluoro are pretty outrageous. I like Seaguar Abrazx but now that is $30+ a spool...nope. I won't touch Tatsu or Sunline Shooter. I've used Sniper, Assassin, Super, Trilene 100%, Vanish Trans, Pline tactical, Red Label, Yo zuri, and some others. Most of these have worked fine for me. If I had to pick one of the bunch I 'd say Trilene 100% or Tactical. Their good AND they seem to always be at least 50% off once a year so I can stock up. Quote
