michael1 Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 This winter I told myself I was going to start doing more stuff for myself versus having to run up to a local store and having them do it. I have 6 reels that I have put mono backing on and are ready for the top, main line. 4 will be FC and the other 2 braid. What knot do you recommend to connect the mono backing to the FC or braid? Super User Hammer 4 Posted March 4, 2020 Super User Posted March 4, 2020 If you did this right, i.e. you never run into the backing, a uni to uni knot is all you need, easy to tie, and pretty small knot. If you have any doubts, a dab of super glue on the knot will add some strength. Make sure to keep some Tension on the line as your spooling it on the reel. 1 2 Quote
Glaucus Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 I just do an uni. You'll never reach the backing and if you do something is wrong. Same as how I just do a couple overhand "knots" to tie it to the spool. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 4, 2020 Super User Posted March 4, 2020 Double Uni is what I use - whether the main line is Braid, Mono or Hybrid. Quote
michael1 Posted March 4, 2020 Author Posted March 4, 2020 Wouldn't a double uni be a bit big and create a noticeable bump on the spool? Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted March 4, 2020 Super User Posted March 4, 2020 I just put them together and do a double wrap granny knot then cover it with some black tape. I have been doing this method for many years with no problems. Quote

JediAmoeba Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 I usually do an albright. They are just easier for me than an Uni. Quote

Bass Junke Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 Uni to Uni for me also. Someone posted the lefty kreh knot a couple week/months ago. That was the easiest line to line knot I ever tied. Used it all the time when I used tie leaders. Another option. Quote

Bass Junke Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 That is exactly why I just logged on. Just realized you need an end to tie that knot. Rusty, haven't tied that in a while. Quote
txchaser Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 Alberto, it is fast to tie and I can't feel it under my thumb. Uni to uni is big enough that I notice it. Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted March 5, 2020 Super User Posted March 5, 2020 Alberto knot. Been down to my backing twice while UL fishing and had no problems. Quote
