Glaucus Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 A thread dedicated to the times our partner has hooked us. ? My fishing partner and good friend and my son and I had our first outing of the season on a beautiful day in Illinois today. The only thing we caught was wind burn until my buddy caught me while I was picking out a backlash for my son. I felt a smack on my leg through my thin sweatpants followed by "oh ****!" I looked down and a KVD 2.5 was sticking to me. At that moment I do believe I excreted bodily fluids. Somehow, however, it didn't hook my flesh and skin. I looked at my son and shook my head and said, "see what happens when you don't thumb your spool?" It was good to knock the rust off. This was actually my first time out since I got sick about 8 months ago. ? *Actually I did fish once last year while sick. 1 Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted March 4, 2020 Global Moderator Posted March 4, 2020 Last spring my son got me twice with a hook. Once in the neck, just a scratch. The second on top of the noggin which drew blood. Both times I warned him a few casts before he was getting a little too close and that he needed to be aware of his surroundings. It didn’t help. 2 Quote
newriverfisherman1953 Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 Step-father hooked me in the butt cheek with a live spring lizard!! 2 Quote
skekoam Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 Glad you are back out there and fishing. A few weeks ago my son slapped me right on the face with a smaller swim bait as he attempted to set the hook close to shore. You should of seen the look on my face as I wiped my cheek to check for blood. Luckily it was a clean slap and the hooks didn't gouge me. 1 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted March 4, 2020 Super User Posted March 4, 2020 My youngest got you beat there and hooked a 300 pounder. I pulled the hook, barb and all out of my side and it wouldn't stop bleeding. We were in a rowboat and I almost took it back to shore, but I'm glad I didn't. What could have been my worst day of fishing turned into one of my best, as on my first cast that day, I landed this massive hog of a smallie, didn't have a scale but it was over 23" long! I didn't get anything else that day, but that one fish more than made up for it. 2 Quote
Tizi Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 When I was a teenager, I was fishing with my younger brother on a dock at a friends house. He was casting while I was tying a new bait on. I saw his lure cross my face (number 9 rapala), I said "wait!!!!", he did not listen and cast the lure. It got hooked in my nose. My mom had to take me to the emergency room to get it removed, the worst part about it, every bump she hit hurt because that rapala was dangling out of my nose!! 1 Quote
schplurg Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 Not hooked bad yet, but in a few of my videos a lure can be seen zooming just past my head at Mach 80 (hmm where'd I get that phrase from? ). One almost hit me in the face but the line was short enough that it stopped short. I show those in super-slo-motion. Last summer a friend hooked his finger bad, all the way past the barb and past the hook curve a bit, right next to his fingernail, top of his finger. Buried. I thought we were going home for sure, and we'd just launched. He pulled it out and saved the day. He wouldn't let me record it, but wow - a real hero! 1 Quote

I yanked and yanked and it finally came flying back at my face. Smacked me right below my eye. How it didn't hook me is a miracle. I'll never not wear glasses while fishing again. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 7, 2020 Global Moderator Posted March 7, 2020 Every time it's happened, I've been at fault. My dad did drag a deep diving crankbait across the top of my head on the back cast. Blew out the top of my hat, ripped 3 streaks through my scalp from the back of my head to the front of my head, but the hooks ripped completely through so other than it burned like my head was on fire and I had a terrible headache, at least I wasn't still hooked. Kyle S Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Like @Bluebasser86, whenever it has happened, i'm the one one who has been at fault...I hooked my buddies t-shirt with a crank bait on one occasion. Luckily no skin was penetrated. On another outing I set the hook too close to the surface and missed a fish that was swiping at my swim jig and as a result, my lure came rocketing out of the water and slapped a buddy on the leg, once again without penetrating skin. This brings another memory to mind...Last summer I met a guy who set the hook on a jig, missed the fish like I had done before, and had the lure come shooting back at him. It hit him right in the eye. 'Luckily' (if that word is even relevant in this thread?) his sunglasses were on and caused the jig to bounce off of his glasses and stick in his cheek. Ouch Quote
