michael1 Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 I am looking at possibly buying a new Shimano Stradic spinning reel. I'm probably going to choose the 2500 or 3000 size. Being such a small difference between the two it actually may come down to the handle knob. The 3000 size has the T knob and the 2500 size has the small paddle knob. I have not seen either locally to try out but I was curious if either one seems to be more popular with people? Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted March 3, 2020 Super User Posted March 3, 2020 I ordered the 3000 Stradic ci4 because I like the t handle better. I am probably in the minority but I like the feel of it better. 2 Quote
mrpao Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 I like the bigger T knobs myself. I hate the new flatter knobs shimano has on their higher end 1000 and 2500 size reels. I usually switch them out to the older thicker knobs or T knobs 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 3, 2020 Super User Posted March 3, 2020 All in what you like/how something feels to you. I personally prefer the paddle knobs on my spinning reels. That said, if I had the money right now, I'd opt for a double handle with paddles! love how the double handles work on spinning reels. Quote
LCG Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 I tried both, I preferred the normal handle of the 2500. To each their own. The reel itself is fantastic though. Quote

But yeah, they have a bigger market in Japan for both Shimano and Daiwa. Gomexus makes "affordable" handles, under $50. https://www.amazon.com/GOMEXUS-Shimano-Stradic-Spinning-Machined/dp/B07R1TZZ3V/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=gomexus+double+handle+stradic&qid=1583334646&sr=8-1 And if money is no object (i.e., handle almost same price as reel): Yumeya, Livre make some really nice ones. https://www.hedgehog-studio.co.jp/product-list/623 And for Livre, scroll down to "Spinning Type Custom Handle" to the Wing series. https://www.hedgehog-studio.co.jp/page/74 Gomexus pic below. 1 Quote

Thanks for the info but these are a lot more expensive than I can pay just for a handle. Quote

Yeah, that's why I put "affordable" in quotes, LOL. I've had the Gomexus model in my wish list on Amazon for about a year now. Some day I hope to pull the trigger and get one. Quote
thunderblack Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 I didn't think I would like the 3000 'T' handle but fished a 3000 last yr on a main jerkbait setup and its really nice! Saltwater models I use are all T handles as well and it gets the nod here. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted March 5, 2020 Super User Posted March 5, 2020 Buy whichever size fits you best. Then you can always switch the handle for $10. Quote

I would have to win the lottery to buy them. Quote

I bought the 2500 size handle for my stradic and it cost me 45 bucks canadian from shimano in Peterborough, and that's not including shipping before I live close by. 1 Quote

Nice! I have never tried the double handle on a spinning reel. I'm seriously considering grabbing that Gomexus from Amazon. It will look great too with the red and carbon fiber on the Stradic Ci4+. Back to the OP's question, I prefer the 2500 paddle handles on the Stradics over the T handle. Quote
Yumeya Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 I hate the T-knob, so I always go with the 2500 size, I also don't need the extra line capacity. Quote

RB 77 Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 I can't do the T handle on spinning reels. 2500 size for me only. Quote

There's a sort of balance thing that happens with the double handle. I really like it on the Spirex. Almost like a centrifugal force thing going on with a double. Quote
