I am looking at possibly buying a new Shimano Stradic spinning reel. I'm probably going to choose the 2500 or 3000 size. Being such a small difference between the two it actually may come down to the handle knob. The 3000 size has the T knob and the 2500 size has the small paddle knob. I have not seen either locally to try out but I was curious if either one seems to be more popular with people?

I ordered the 3000 Stradic ci4 because I like the t handle better. I am probably in the minority but I like the feel of it better.

I like the bigger T knobs myself.

I hate the new flatter knobs shimano has on their higher end 1000 and 2500 size reels. I usually switch them out to the older thicker knobs or T knobs

All in what you like/how something feels to you.

I personally prefer the paddle knobs on my spinning reels.

That said, if I had the money right now, I'd opt for a double

handle with paddles! :D love how the double handles work

on spinning reels.

I tried both, I preferred the normal handle of the 2500. To each their own. The reel itself is fantastic though.

I also like the the double handles on a spinning reel. The only reel I have seen with them is a Shimano Spirex. Are double handles available for other reels like Daiwa or only for Shimano?

Same here (Spirex).

But yeah, they have a bigger market in Japan for both Shimano and Daiwa.

Gomexus makes "affordable" handles, under $50.

And if money is no object (i.e., handle almost same price as reel):

Yumeya, Livre make some really nice ones.

And for Livre, scroll down to "Spinning Type Custom Handle" to the Wing series.

Thanks for the info but these are a lot more expensive than I can pay just for a handle.

Yeah, that's why I put "affordable" in quotes, LOL. I've had the Gomexus

model in my wish list on Amazon for about a year now. Some day I hope

to pull the trigger and get one.

I didn't think I would like the 3000 'T' handle but fished a 3000 last yr on a main jerkbait setup and its really nice! Saltwater models I use are all T handles as well and it gets the nod here.

Buy whichever size fits you best. Then you can always switch the handle for $10.

Factory handle from shimano is $36 for ci4 and $42 for FL, that is if he wanted a factory handle.

Maybe some day you will get a winning lottery ticket. I would have to win the lottery to buy them.

I bought the 2500 size handle for my stradic and it cost me 45 bucks canadian from shimano in Peterborough, and that's not including shipping before I live close by.

Nice! I have never tried the double handle on a spinning reel. I'm seriously considering grabbing that Gomexus from Amazon. It will look great too with the red and carbon fiber on the Stradic Ci4+.

Back to the OP's question, I prefer the 2500 paddle handles on the Stradics over the T handle.

I hate the T-knob, so I always go with the 2500 size, I also don't need the extra line capacity.

There's a sort of balance thing that happens with the double handle.

I really like it on the Spirex. Almost like a centrifugal force thing going

on with a double.
