Everybody pronounces Neko Rig wrong.

It's not NEE-ko.

It's not NECK-o.

It is NAY-ko. (ねこ)

Do you know the origin of the word Neko?  I always thought it was pronounced Nay-ko because the long A is like “Nail” as in Nail-Rig.  No idea where “ko” comes from though...

I know Neko means cat in Japanese.

Found this through Google:

Haruhiko Murakami, a legendary lure designer in Japan originally developed and advanced this technique throughout the Japanese bass industry by adding tungsten nail sinkers to the heads of soft plastic finesse worms.

Murakami coined the rig’s name from the phrase “Neko-sogi” which literally means “the rig that catches all the fish like a vacuum cleaner.”

I think it means, "dumb Americans will pay $2 each for tungsten paneling nails."

Ok... to the east coast guys - how come you don't pronounce the "H" in words like "Huge" or "Humid" but you do for other words like "Halibut" or "Hook?" (I mean Huk?)

I hear this and I say “What the ell?" in my best Fargo accent... ;)

?

You are talking about Yankees. Leave us innocent Southerners out of such sweeping generalizations.

I had a friend from Michigan and any bass over 3 pounds was  “uuuugge”.                    We always use the H . As in Herbs. Not urbs.
