Super User soflabasser Posted March 4, 2020 Super User Posted March 4, 2020 The Everglades is a great place to go catch Oscars. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted March 4, 2020 Super User Posted March 4, 2020 I use to breed Oscars years ago. They made great pets, If you kept them in a Large aquarium. Somehow, I can't get my head around fishing for them.. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted March 4, 2020 Super User Posted March 4, 2020 I have had pet Oscars as well, they are a beautiful fish and it is easy to take care of them. Been catching Oscars in the Everglades and other areas for well over 20 years now. I often catch them over 12 inches long and have caught them over 14 inches long. Rarest Oscar I caught was an Albino Oscar along with a couple Lutino Oscars. Pound for pound they fight harder than any black bass species I have caught and fight harder than many fish of equal size. Definitely a fish worth catching if you enjoy light tackle fishing. With that said you should still try to fish for bass if you have enough time since March-April is a great time of year to catch a big bass in Florida. Quote

Dennis L Smith Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 Three years ago, a buddy and I went to Lake Okeechobee fishing in late Feb. We weren't catching many fish. While cleaning the few we did catch, two fellow walked up with two five gallon buckets full of Oscars. I had never heard of an Oscar! They told us, go to Holiday Park, on Hwy 27 just south of I 75. We did. We went about 4-5 miles into the everglades and started fish the edges around trees in or over the water. We caught 72 fish. We ran out of a place to put them. The next day we were better prepared. We caught 147. All caught on Bream Busters, using minnows, crickets, & worms. Minnows seemed to be the favorite bait. All were caught in one area less than 100 yds long. Needless to say we go at least once or twice a year. My question is, can they be caught in early October? Dennis in Ga. Quote
