Backpack suggestions

This is probably more "storage" than "tackle" but I'm hoping for suggestions on a tackle backpack (co-angler and bank fishing)

 

Everything I see advertised is how much tray storage they offer.  I can get away with two 3700 trays and a smaller terminal box, but I carry a lot of plastics, in their original packages/clam shells.  

 

Suggestions?

   I went to wallyworld and bought a backpack from the school supply section. It won't hold a 3700, but it holds 2 3600 boxes. It has pouches on each side that will hold soft plastic bags.  They had lots of different packs on sale (this was right before school year) and I'm pretty sure I saw some packs that were bigger, but more expensive. Go check that section out. You'll probably come up with something you like for a reasonable price.        jj

It’s expensive as hell... I know. And it also holds four 3600 trays instead of 3700 ones. But the Shimano Blackmoon Bag is great. It comes in two sizes, a compact one and a larger one. I own the large own and there’s plenty of space for soft plastics in the huge compartment above the trays. I’m currently completely stuffed on baits in there. I put similar baits in a large freezer ziploc bag (1 ziploc bag with craws and creatures, 1 ziploc bag for worms, etc..). I believe it’s the perfect bag for a co-angler cause there’s these neat compartments for holding line spools. Here’s a review on it if you’re interested:

 

 

Edit: I put my clamshells for my swimbaits on one of the vertical side compartments. It’s kinda tight and I only ever have 2-3 clamshells in there but I’m sure you can make it work!

I also use this and love it!  It does get heavy if you have it stuffed!

Mine currently weighs 18lbs!! If I’m bank fishing I thin it out though.

Go get yourself a real backpack, Toss a few tackle boxes in it and call it a day.  Most “fishing” backpacks are  overpriced and crappy quality.   I bought a good backpack and Ive had it for over 10 years with no issues.

I use a Simms Sling pack.  It easy to just unbuckle one side and I can swing it around to the front.  It has a platform that unzips so I can sit a bait on it and tie it on.  It also has a rod holder.  It will hold 2 3700 and would have a separate pouch for soft plastic.  It is costly but it has been great for bank fishing and for kayaking.

I've used Jansport back packs since I was a senior in college.  They have a lifetime replacement policy on them should they wear out.  I've worn out 2 since 1978, one of them really wan't my fault because I lent it to a buddy who took it to the rainbow gathering and it was in shreds when he brought it back to me.   I would have complained, but he was kinda in shreds also.  It took that back pack and returned it to the store I bought it from, told them "this pack came back from the rainbow gathering looking like this" and they replaced it out of in store stock.   The other time I had to send one in and I got an upgrade from the back pack I sent in.  I think that Dick's carried Jansport packs.

The Alice pack holds a ton of 3700 boxes and even has front pockets for your soft plastics. It even features a quick release shoulder strap so you can get to your tackle in a jiffy.

Do you have the Tactical or the Ambidextrous? I have the Magellan sling for wading and love it. It also swings to the front and opens in the "up" position. I need to wear an additional shoulder bag occasionally for 3600 boxes. I was looking at a White River sling, but the Simms is on my radar too.

Grandson bought this one 5 years ago and beats the day light out of it, but no rips or tears yet.. I think it holds 10 3600 boxes and a ton of other stuff he lugs around.  Really inexpensive.

I have the Waypoint.  It's no longer made but I like it.  My only complaint is that for the price it's not remotely waterproof or even water resistant.  In the rain if you are out on a long journey, the bag can take on water and hold it at the bottom.

Check out Cabelas Advanced Angler Backpack II.  Good quality.  Holds 4 3600 and 1 3700.  It’s possible to make it 3-4 3700.

I look for: a large main compartment, best split into two fore and aft, for tackle and a stuff-able rain jacket. A roomy front pocket with ample pockets to hold smaller sundries. Then, I want water bottle holders on the sides.

 

I did not find a "fishing backpack" I really liked. So I went to outdoor and discount stores and found plenty. Lately, I've found them at thrift stores for a song.

I just bought this bag as well based on several recommendations on youtube on different co-angler bags.  Looks really good, but I haven't had a chance to even pull it out of the packaging.

while it is way more than I need when bank fishing the Plano 2.0 Tackle Backpack seems like a good choice for you.

 

it can hold a number of trays and the top section is perfect for all your soft plastic packages.

 

I have been thinking about getting it for the trips on my Father in laws boat. I take more gear on those trips and It would make transport easier.

 

For bank angling I have a Samurai Tactical sling bag (holds 1 3700 and 1 3600 box) Or my new Gamakatsu shoulder bag.

I have had this one for the past 3 years.  It has been great and been through hell and back.  I have been very hard on it and it hasn't had any failures.  It holds 3 3600 size boxes in the bottom and has a lot of room above where I keep a couple binders with soft plastics and other things.  I have a bunch of extra 3600 size boxes and switch out the ones I need for the day.

I just purchased the Gamamkatsu backpack and it’s the probably my favorite so far.  Extremely well made.  I have probably gone through at least 10 backpacks looking for one that fits my specific needs.

I use the single strap version.  It's well built.  Faded from sun damage but zippers and straps and seams are still in good shape.  I've made it work, but the size I have is better suited as a day bag.  For multiple day tournaments or longer trips I take a plano weekender (think that's the name) along with it.  Trying to find a bag that I can consolidate into one.  Thanks for the response!

For larger, clam-shell plastics, I put them in a 1-gallon ziplock and put them in the backpack, although this backpack has storage compartments that work as well.

I got mine for $75. Holds four 3600s and you can fit two 3500s in the bottom side pockets. I put plastics in the large top part or even some on the sides of the 3600 boxes. It will still stand up by itself even with all the hard boxes removed. Two buddys have since purchased these since fishing with me and seeing mine. 

 

I have a few other bags of the same brand and they have all been high quality and well though out in my opinion.
